Icy Hot No-Mess Vapor Gel, Maximum Strength Cough Suppressant 2 oz (56 g) Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I was sick two weeks ago with a severe viral infection with a cough that needed whatever I could throw at it. My trusty Vicks VapoRub cream had expired and wasn't working (I didn't realize that it actually expired four years ago, so the fact that it still worked until recently is impressive). I do not like using the gels because of the icky, sticky mess they make, but I was desperate and the only thing my local pharmacy had was the VapoRub gel and this new IcyHot No-Mess Vapor Gel. I liked the sound of "no mess" so I bought it.
Big mistake. Not only did it not work half as well as the VapoRub, it stained and ruined one of my favorite shirts! I applied it as directed on my chest and rubbed it in with the sponge. There was more than I expected on my skin, so I rubbed some of it off with a napkin, but I didn't think anything about letting my shirt touch it while it was still wet (it doesn't completely absorb, just like most gels). I saw the wet marks on my shirt but still didn't think anything of it. My codeine kicked in and I went to bed.
The next morning, I discovered the marks were still there...the shirt was darkened everywhere the gel had touched it. I washed it and air dried it, still there. Used Shout gel and washed it again, still there. I have emailed the company that makes this junk and am waiting to see if they can tell me how to get the stains out (if not they will owe me a new shirt!!).
So obviously, I do NOT recommend this product. Do yourself a favor and get the VapoRub CREAM instead...it is not greasy or sticky and it easily absorbs into your skin. Not only does it work to calm coughs, but I also use it to battle headaches...I put it directly on my forehead! For serious sinus issues, I put some on my cheeks near my nose (over the sinus cavities) and a tiny bit just below my nose...opens everything up and calms it down considerably. It will make your eyes tear for a bit, but it's worth it to be able to breathe and to not have sinus pain! The cream version can be hard to find but I have found it at WalMart and even our local remodeled BB&B that now has a toiletries section. It's probably here on Amazon too (and if it is I will go give it a 5-star review). :-)
