Ivy Dry cream is the most effective over-the-counter treatment I've every tried for contact dermatitis (poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, etc.) - and I've tried quite a few!: Bendryl spray, Calamine lotion, Cortizone 10, Ivy Dry, Caladryl Clear, Aveeno anti-itch lotion, Tea Tree gel, Aloe Vera Supergel, Calagel - Boudreaux's Butt Paste, even. (And this list only includes the items *currently* sitting in my medicine cabinet.)
During the spring, summer and fall months, I practically live outside. Since I'm cursed with ridiculously sensitive skin, this means I'm usually sporting a rash or monster bug bite most of the year. So far, Ivy Dry is the only cream that has managed to significantly alleviate the itching, burning and (occasional) pain associated with contact dermatitis and insect bites. It's hard to tell for certain, but it may also speed up healing time. I usually use Ivy Dry in conjunction with Neosporin (or a similar generic), for good measure, so it's hard to say for sure.
Ivy Dry also comes in a spray form; while the spray is a little more convenient, especially when you're in a hurry, I don't think it's as effective as the cream. Even so, it's still preferable to most of the other creams and sprays currently available. It's quick and easy to apply, and not as sticky as some of the other anti-itch sprays I've tried (e.g., Bendryl Spray).
Stock your medicine cabinet with both the Ivy Dry cream and spray, and you'll be all set for the coming summer season!
