If I miss the symptoms and do get a full blown blister this keeps them from scabbing and helps heal more quickly. It does nothing for pain other than keep scabbing at bay but I just use a little numbing product for tooth pain if I have pain and that takes care of it. The only draw back is the cost. I really feel it could be less expensive.

Don't take my word for it: Compare the ingredient of Viroxin to Bactine: It's the same: Benzalkonium Cl 0.13%.

(More customer reviews)I've tried a number of different topical treatments for cold sores, and this is one of the best I've found. It's no miracle, but it does speed up the recovery. I've found that if I catch it at the beginning, it doesn't prevent the cold sore altogether, but it stops it before it gets very bad and probably cuts the healing time in half. Also, it puts a stop to the itching/burning sensation. If you haven't tried this and other things seem not to have worked too well, I'd say it's certainly worth a try. (However, what I've found works even better is toothpaste.)

But Viroxyn costs an arm and a leg! AND...Bactine adds a pain reliever! So, when you feel a cold sore coming on, soak a cotton ball with Bactine (instead of Viroxyn )and virorously rub on and around your budding cold sore (don't rub so hard as to break the skin). And don't ingest any! Then let that Bactine do its work. Your pain should diminish and your lip sore should heal much faster. And you didn't have to pay over $15 for a one time dose of Viroxyn (a cotton ball's worth). But, check your facts! Look up both Viroxyn and Bactine online and see for yourself! Also, you might want to augment your treatment with a zinc-based cold sore ointment too (I think Bactine may have an ointment like that).

I also purchased Releev and it was kind of brown and yucky and my cold sore seemed to end up getting worse than normal.
I'm sure different products work better or worse than other people. I say buy all of them and see what works best. It is worth it!

(More customer reviews)I've been shopping on Amazon for many years now have never been "wowed" enough by a product to actually take time to right a review. Yes, this product is a bit expensive but it's been worth it to me. Viroxyn is the only product that I've ever tried that actually helped decrease the healing time of a cold sore. I've used it 3 times in the past year. Each time I caught my cold sore at a different stage of development and every time it's helped get rid of the pain, took away the swelling and let me bypass the horrible cracking/scabbing stage (you know the one where you're afraid to smile cause you might start bleeding.) That makes it worth the price in my opinion.
Other reviews claim that it's the same thing as drugstore antiseptic sprays like Bactine. I checked and yes, they have the same basic ingredients. After seeing that with my own eyes I decided to try it and I found that using Bactine did not have the same effect. With Viroxyn i use one application and that's all i need to start healing. After 4 days and multiple applications of Bactine I didn't see any difference other than a slight decrease in swelling right after I used it and a very temporary numbing.
Everyone is different, i don't think there is such a thing as one product that works perfectly for all people. However, I would HIGHLY SUGGEST that if you've tried everything else out there that you give this product a try. I'm so glad I did.
