Adventure Medical Kits AMK Comprehensive 2010 Review

Adventure Medical Kits AMK Comprehensive 2010
Average Reviews:

I've had one of these kits since 1992, and I highly recommend it. From the Dental Module to the CPR Module to the SAM splint, this kit has many of the items you'll need in an emergency, and is worth every penny you'll spend on it.
If you work or play hard in the outdoors (I used to do surveying in the back-of-beyond, as well as a lifelong camper/backpacker/bikepacker), this kit is all you could hope for, with a few suggested additions. Get the EpiPen or other epinephrine injector the included book recommends, and I'd highly recommend getting a second SAM splint, the SAM instructional DVD/Video, and a pack of SAM finger splints.
There's a list of suggested for-emergency-use prescription medications; if you get them, also get a 14-day supply of each prescription medication you (or a family member) need on a daily basis. If you're getting this for an earthquake or other natural disaster kit, you'll need them anyway. Have them in this kit to make them easier to find. If you take OTC medications, add a pack of each of them as well; you can rotate them out yearly. If you change your smoke detector battery on Daylight Savings Time change days, it's also a good time to go through this kit and update it.
It's a bit heavy, so you might have to split up the modules if you're backpacking in a group, but this kit can handle many of the oops moments we all see in our lives, and not just in the outdoors. When I'm not out and about it sits in my house, where it's handled everything from scalp wounds to broken bones and even severe burns. Even if you're rushing out to the nearest hospital, this kit can bring a calmer mindset to the patient, as it's obvious you're at least ready and able to help.
Just make a list of what you use and refill it! I can't stress that enough! That's the most common error with getting this kit - people don't get the refills and are out of a critical item in an emergency.
This kit's worth it - 16 years on mine and still going strong! You can't go wrong with Adventure Medical Kits. Get this one, get another, but GET ONE.

Adventure Medical Kits Pocket Survival Pak 1 pk Review

Doug Ritter knows what he talks about. As a Marine and avid outdoorsman, this is a great, basic kit that should be carried at all times -- and in your vehicle when you are driving. Included are basic items that will help keep you alive and get found. Yes, there are better kits out there, but for the price, conveinence and novice -- this is it.

First Aid Only, OSHA First Aid Kit (Large, 25 Person) Review

First Aid Only, OSHA First Aid Kit (Large, 25 Person)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I spent some time bid tabbing first aid kits before making this purchase. What I found is that this kit will deal with almost every basic household first aid need, plus some more.
After you buy this kit, I'd recommend adding a few safety pins (for blisters and for dressings) and an instant cold compress (for burns or bruises). If you're going to put the kit in a cabin or take it on vacation, add some waterproof matches.
Overall, this kit is a top notch and perfect for Kitchen or Basement. I gave one to my uncle for his cabin and it's great there, too.
One caution: A lot of the kits have more components, but unless you spend some time filtering through the component lists, you'll end up with 15,000 3/4" band aids instead of the variety of tools you need to treat your cuts and bruises.

Adventure Medical Kits Fundamentals First-Aid Kit Review

I have used this once.
I would echo one reviewer's comments about the very practical feature of labeled velcro tabs that mark the separate compartments of this kit. If you're alone, hurt, and in a hurry you don't want to have to pour out a bunch of unrelated stuff and sort through it for what you want.
It's very compact, great for camping/backpacking. Or it's good just around the house if you need it.
Excellent product.

it fogs up if you are not careful. also, it seems to trap moisture quickly after breathing. it's not that great. plus, it seems to protect others from your germs, not other people's germs from you.

I ordered this for my daughter, see liked it a lot, particularly the many compartments and organization. Has pretty much everything you would need. The thermometer is a very cheap one-use type and I would recommend augmenting the kit with a better one.

Adventure Medical Kits Pocket Survival Pack Review

Adventure Medical Kits Pocket Survival Pack
Average Reviews:

Doug Ritter and his foundation, Equipped to Survive, has come up with a very economic method to equip yourself and your family with an emergency kit. It is small enough to carry unnoticed in a pocket, yet fully functional.
Although you can control the amount of certain items if you put together your own kit (something of a rite of passage among the survivalists/emergency preparedness folk), I spent twice as much putting together a comparable kit. The military issue sparklite and tinder-quick, Fox-40 whistle, and Rescue Flash signal mirror alone could cover the cost of the kit and they are all top notch gear. This pack is extremely high quality through and through, from choice of equipment to packing and instructions. I recommend looking at the ETS website at the slideshow of how such a kit is put together and what Doug Ritter himself recommends that you add to the kit (the pouch can hold a few more small items such as water purification tabs).
The Pocket Survival Pack is an amazing value. I've purchased all of the items separately, and just the shipping or driving to pick up 3 or 4 of the items probably covers half the cost! If you are lucky enough to get everything at one store, you'd be hard pressed to get the entire kit as cheap as this. I know people who have purchased this kit to take the parts for their own self-built survival kits! That's how economical it is. Plus, if you buy this PSP, a portion of the proceeds goes to the ETS non-profit group which gives free survival consulting to deployed troops and is actively involved in improving survival equipment and standards. In fact, Doug Ritter is the only consumer advocate working with the governing body on personal locator beacons used in marine, aviation, and remote travel.
The kit itself comes in a waterproof container. I found it to be a bit tight when closing back up, but there is actually some room for more items. All components are of the highest quality. It's lightweight and I never notice it in a pocket. With the recommended ETS or similar keychain LED flashlight and a good pocket folding knife, you have a complete survival kit that rivals ones costing $100+. These are cheap enough to get one for each car and any camping/hiking/marine/aviation gear you might have. I highly recommend this PSP. I'm not affiliated with ETS, but I've come to appreciate their no-nonsense advice and forums. And if this was a bad kit, I'd still say so. I give it 5 stars, great value for the price and it really could save your life.

First Aid Only Emergency Medical First Aid Kit, 204-Piece Kit Review

First Aid Only Emergency Medical First Aid Kit, 204-Piece Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Admittedly, I bought this first aid kit near the end of my FSA benefit year to clear out my account. I wasn't really looking for a personal EMT kit, but wanted something better than bandaids-and-alcohol, which is what many of the less expensive kits seem to offer.
I ordered this item from Amazon (not a third party) and was initially very taken aback that the case wasn't sealed or in any sort of packaging other than the brown Amazon box. There isn't any real medicine in the kit to be tampered with, but the box itself wasn't even taped shut.
So with that, it's hard to even tell if you got what you were supposed to get, as there's no list of contents anywhere. Amazon's description says 204 pieces, and another description says 216.
The next thing that really surprised me was how soon everything in the kit expires. There was less than a year left on the antibiotic ointment, and about a year on the other liquid-based products. I checked my own medicine cabinet for reference, and saw that the items I already had were good for at least two years.
As far as the case goes, it's nothing more than an orange Flambeau tackle box. Some of the items are obviously crammed in, others seem to be arbitrarily placed wherever they happen to fit. That said, there is a huge variety of items you get: all sorts of bandages, insect sting reliever, tongue depressors, one-time-use thermometers, a rain poncho, an emergency blanket, etc. But the quality of the included items is low-end, and some items border on "questionable" in terms of quality.
For what this costs, you could build your own first aid kit with basically the same contents, but using higher quality products. Granted, you probably won't get a fancy orange pretend EMT box if you go that route. Of course, the question you might want to ask yourself isn't "Can I build the same kit?", but "Will I build myself the same kit?".

Smart Traveler First Aid Kit Review

Smart Traveler First Aid Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this first aid kit for my brother when he bought his first car. I bought him this along with a multiple tool to leave in his car for whatever would come up. My wife and I do a lot of outdoorsy stuff, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, biking, diving and more. We actually have different first aid kits that we bought at Costco, but they no longer carried them when I went to buy this. I wanted something that had a first aid book, lots of stuff, and room for more. Having something wih pockets and flaps for organization is extremely useful. There's nothing worse when there is a problem than having to dump the contents out to find what you're looking for. This kit has all the basics (including blister protection, very important), and it's easy to raid at the start of an adventure when your best friend realizes they've forgotten something, or have decided to use their boots for the first time ever on an 11 mile in backpacking trip. It's easy to replenish, and supplement, the price is right, you'll find kits with comparable features in stores and on Amazon for twice the price. So far my brother hasn't used it much, but it's been there when he's wanted it, and it's had what he wanted, and that's what counts.
