With both my girlfriend and I being transplant patients we take a LOT of (Rx) drugs every day and will for the rest of our lives. We also try to be active participants in life and are frequently "on the go" and need useful pill systems to help us out. Having used Apex systems before I was happy to see this new product. We've purchased three of these locally and have returned all three due to a defect (see "The Bad" below) but will keep testing until we find some that work! We'll need 4 each of these to do the whole month at once (very convenient with this product)- she'll get the Lavender color and I'll use the Blue. I want to give a stronger recommendation to the Transplant Community on our online and in person support groups but am holding off for now.
The Good: Nice use of space, containers are easily removable and closure seems pretty solid. Good price (though less at local stores and no shipping!). Easily packable and each day fits nicely in her purse or my small messenger bag. 4 sections allow for regular doses of drugs and extra medications. If you take both a daily multi-vitamin and large calcium or other large pills they won't fit in this small system and you should look at their larger one which has served me well for 6 years.
The Bad: All seven days "snap" into the base, but it seems that there's always one day that won't stay in if you hold the box upside down. (while this rarely happens we do travel and thus would be required to put the entire case in a Zip-Lock baggie to keep them all together). Also- Customer service at Apex was ok, but less than stellar when we reported this problem. We were hoping for a solution that would allow us to buy directly from them and have them pre-test the units for this defect before sending them out but they are not apparently able to sell directly and would only inspect and send one unit. To their credit, though, they *would* send one free of charge!
A solution to the manufacturer: It seems that the plastic extrusion method used is good, but the psi should be turned up a notch to get a better fill of plastic. One of the notches on the base seems thinner than the rest and that's the day that falls out (Tuesday and Thursday are the culprits!).
For now I give this a 4 for now but will update when the defect is addressed.
