Knee Support Open Patella Review

Knee Support Open Patella
Average Reviews:

Other than the solid support, what I like best about this knee brace is the terry lined ventilation. The neoprene on unlined types tend to allow sweat to build up and give me a rash behind my knee but not this one. The extra padding on the front is another smart addition that protects against bumping knees when playing sports (like basketball). I thought I might need an XL but the large fit me just right. Here are the sizes when measuring around your knee:
Small 13"-14"
Medium 14"-15"
Large 15"-17"
X-Large 17"-18"

McDavid Multi-Action Knee Support (Small/Medium) Review

McDavid Multi-Action Knee Support (Small/Medium)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Picked this up locally.
I suffer chrondromalacia and had previously been taping my knee on the advice of a physical therapist (physio).
This knee strap has been effective at reducing my knee pain and works better than tape when sitting for long periods. E.g. helps with driving (especially with clutch use) and long flights (especially getting up and walking off the plane).
Tape seems to be a little more effective for me when walking around, but is less convenient.
I am of slim build, and the small/medium was the right size for me.
Couple of issues - first is that after extended use this irritated the skin on the back of my knee. A few hrs a day is fine, but I wore it over a 24hr period on a recent trip to India and that caused the irritation. Second is that over time the elastic loosens up. At first the strap was a little too tight. Following a period of optimum size for me, it is now a little too loose. I can tighten it up more using the velcro, but there is then not enough stretch left for complete leg motion. I'm about to order a different knee strap as this one is no longer as effective due to the loss of elasticity.
Overall, I would say this has been surprisingly effective over the first few weeks of use, but the loss of elasticity is a little disappointing.
Other ways I have eased my condition are leg strengthening in the gym (I just wasn't moving forward using the basic physical therapy exercises), and the use of well cushioned shoes (e.g. Nike Free Everyday 2)

McDavid Knee Pad with Sorbothane Insert Review

McDavid Knee Pad with Sorbothane Insert
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Over the course of practicing jiujitsu, I have used about six different knee pads. Quality-wise, I think this is the best knee pad so far. It is thin and light so it takes nothing away from your knee's mobility, range or speed. It is padded enough to protect against "gentle" knee slams against padded surfaces common in sports like judo, wrestling or jiujitsu. It is machine washable and can be reverse-used, if you prefer red color. I have had it for about a month now without a single thread coming off, so I think it is very durable as well. Another review complained about the lack of air circulation but I have never had an issue with it. In my opinion, a person experiencing circulation issues with this knee pad would likely have those issues with any other ones in the market.
This is a "thin" type knee pad designed primarily to alleviate light impacts and allow heat retention to reduce sports injury. This is not a "front shield" type knee pad designed for heavy-weight or high-impact protection. So while it is ideal for grappling sports, it may not be suitable if you need to put a lot of weigh on your knees for a long periods of time (laying bricks, welding walls, etc.).
Finally, the description does not make it entirely clear but it is only one knee pad per order. So it is slightly more expensive than some other kneepads, but I think the quality makes it worthwhile.

My husband loves this knee brace. He has had surgury on his knee twice and this has offered the best support. It feels like his knee is as close to 100% as it has ever been.
Plus they were very fast in shipping my order and the price is lower than I have found at any sporting goods store.

McDavid Knee Pad with Sorbothane Insert (Black/Scarlett, Small) Review

McDavid Knee Pad with Sorbothane Insert (Black/Scarlett, Small)
Average Reviews:

Product is size SMALL and only comes as ONE. I had been looking for these for a gift, and a lot of them are sold as pairs. So, I had to return this for a different brand pair that's a LARGE and sold as a PAIR. The listing clearly stated this, but I just wasn't paying attention since others are one size fits all and sold in pairs. Anywho, with that aside, product was slightly stretchy and well padded.

McDavid Neoprene Patella Knee Support With Spring Steel Stays Review

McDavid Neoprene Patella Knee Support With Spring Steel Stays
Average Reviews:

I havent found a better knee pad that allows me to practice Tae Kwon Do as comfortable as I do with this one, the others either slip down with the sweat, they open up, or they just dont let me have free movement in the legs as I need and still provide me with excellent support for my knees. So, this is just way better than any other knee pads Ive tried, believe me, ive tried a lot. You are getting an excellent product here, hope it works for you as much as it has for me.

Mueller Patellar Stabilizer Knee Brace Review

Mueller Patellar Stabilizer Knee Brace
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recommend this product for several reasons: first, it works as advertised, keeping my knee stabilized, which, having no cartilage in my right knee, I badly need. It is also very comfortable, and easy to put on and adjust. I wear a Mueller Knee Sleeve on my left knee to prevent injury, and one on my right knee over a Mueller Knee Sleeve. The combination is just right.

Mueller Self-Adjusting Knee Stabilizer Review

Mueller Self-Adjusting Knee Stabilizer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I sustained an ACL total tear and have been without one for a year, as I elected to have only a partial menisectomy and not an ACL replacement. The result has been an instability in my knee and subsequent reliance on the other leg.
This knee brace from Mueller is a fantastic find, as it dramatically corrects my moderate to severe knee instability and allows me to rely on both legs more evenly. Even thought it may not "feel" as though you have more rigid support, you will find that you can walk straighter and feel less fatigued at the end of the day (I am on my feet all day long).
I prefer wearing this $15 brace to my $300 brace because of the superior comfort, good support, flexibility, and very low profile. I cannot professionally recommend this brace over pro braces for anyone else's injuries, but it works well for me. An if it works well for my kind of injury, I can only imagine how extraordinarily adequate it would be for more minor knee injuries.
There are no hinges, so it fits well under jeans. Unlike cheap wraps, however, Mueller includes flexible metallic supports that hug each side of the knee. These, combined with the standard "elastic" wrap properties carried by most knee braces, create what Mueller calls "above average" support. I previously owned their jointed version, and it was large, cumbersome, and did not foster any more support than this model. Also, this model straps on, and does not "slide" up the knee. FYI I am a 5'10", 160 lb male. I cannot accurately comment on how this would fit underweight or obese individuals.
***UPDATE***
After months of use, I decided to give this 4 stars, as it appears to have somewhat of a lifespan. The elasticity breaks down, requiring you to make it tighter and tighter. It is now more prone to slide down my leg. Subsequently, the stability retained is about 70% of when it was brand new.

McDavid Pro Stabilizer Knee Brace Review

McDavid Pro Stabilizer Knee Brace
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am recovering from a fractured knee cap and my doctor just took me out of a full leg immobilizer. Without any assistance, my knee is incredibly weak, unstable and not capable of a full range of motion. It also buckles if I walk without a cane or this brace...
Since donning the McDavid brace and had it overnighted. It's been worth every penny. The compression it provides is giving my knee the extra support it needs to help me walk around (without a cane). And the aluminum hinges have given me extra stability, increased my knee's ability to support weight and helped stop my knee from buckling and hyper-extending.
Is it pricey? Yes. Is it worth it to walk around normally, until I'm back to 100%. Yes, yes, yes!
I choose a McDavid knee brace after my injury because my knees bothered me before injury and I used one of their level II braces and loved it. Since this brace (a Level III) is of such great quality, McDavid will become my first choose for similar purchases....
I just hope I don't need them again anytime soon ;-)

McDavid Ligament Knee Support Review

McDavid Ligament Knee Support
Average Reviews:

I wear one all day. Improves my condition by about 50% to 75%. Takes a little getting used to when mountain bike riding. While wearing it during the day I have to remember not to bend my leg too much, while sitting, to stop my leg from falling asleep (same feeling when an arm goes numb from sleeping on it). I bought a total of 4 because I need a clean one after mountain bike riding.
I found that the sizing chart, on the McDavid web site "mcdavidusa.com/store/zoom1.asp?SIZING_ID=69", to be one size too small. I measured my knee, while straight at 15 ½ inches and fully bent at 17 inches. This implies a "Large" size but I had to get an X-Large.

I've tried all kinds of knee braces. This one I found to be too constricting on my knee cap while I ran. It almost made it hurt worse. I also found it to slip down often, especially while doing intervals. I switched to a knee strap instead for both knees

Pro-Tec Athletics Knee Patellar Tendon Strap Review

Pro-Tec Athletics Knee Patellar Tendon Strap
Average Reviews:

I'm the owner of approximately 35 different knee braces and straps. I suffer from patellofemoral pain syndrome and patellar tendinitis. Of everything I own, I find this product the most helpful. In contrast to other patellar tendon straps I've tried (e.g. original Cho-pat), it actually stays in place throughout my entire workout. I'm a distance runner. One strap lasted me about 3 years, then I had to replace it. Not bad considering I use it for any type of vigorous exercise I do.

Professional Sports Medicine Dual Action Neoprene Knee (Patella) Suport Review

Professional Sports Medicine Dual Action Neoprene Knee (Patella) Suport
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The one in the picture and the one in the box are definitely NOT the same. Similar sure. But the one in the picture looks to have a nice snug fit. The one in the box slides downward with just normal walking. And looking at the one on my knee and the one in the picture I can see some very obvious differences:
The one in the picture has an overlapping bottom strap. The one in the box does not.
The one in the picture has a top strip of velcro that has two rings of stitching. The one in the box has a single ring of stitching.
I followed their measuring instructions. I measured my knee at 15 1/2 inches. That's a medium according to their chart. But maybe I should have gotten a small because I have to really pull this thing tight just to get it to stay in one place when I'm not moving. As soon as I start moving though, down it slides.
It also does not encase the patella. You can see in the picture that it comes close to the patella on the left side of the picture. But on the right side it swings out some. The one in the box doesn't come as close on the close side, and on the other side it's
almost to the back of the knee. Way too large.
Also the velcro on the top strap is way too long on the upper flap, and way too short on the lower one so you end up with about two inches of contact with three inches of loose velcro hanging around scratching your knee when you walk. Then because it doesn't have enough contact, the velcro slides loose. This thing is a prime example of what happens when accountants get hold of the engineers design. They go cheap and then the product doesn't work.
I was going to send it back, but then I read Balego's return policy. Once the package is opened, they won't accept returns. Of course to try it on you have to open the package. And to return it you have to just send it back to them and then it's at their discretion. Note that the other reviewer sent his back, and had heard nothing since. Read the Return Policy before ordering from this company.

Mueller Elastic Knee Brace Review

Mueller Elastic Knee Brace
Average Reviews:

I tore my ligaments in the right side of my knee two weeks ago and nothing the hosptial has done has helped. The immobilized cast and crutches was a joke and all the other knee braces helped but not enough. I got this one today and immediately I felt great support from all sides and it locks so you can't go forward and hurt the back of the knee! After half a day the crutches went away and then the cane went away. I just took it easy and by days end, the pain was gone and I was almost walking like normal. But you always have to keep in the back of your mind, that you still have an injured leg but I really thing this is going to help heal my knee a lot faster. Thank you Mueller, it's been two long painful weeks and now I finally have a bit of relief!!! Nick Donvito, Camillus, NY.
