NEW-SKIN POISON IVY TREATMENT 1.8 fl oz Review

NEW-SKIN POISON IVY TREATMENT 1.8 fl oz
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product is expensive and draws you in with the claim on the box that except for the most serious poison ivy infections it will only require one application. Not hardly. I have a very minor case and like other reviewers here am on my 10th or 11th application. It does provide relief but there are many products at less than 1/4th the cost. Buyer beware, the one application is a huge, potentially fraudulent, claim to get you to pay 4 times what you should for what is nothing more than a pain and itch relief product. Buy something else.

Ivarest 8 Hour Maximum Strength Anti-Itch Cream 2 oz (56 g) Review

Ivarest 8 Hour Maximum Strength Anti-Itch Cream 2 oz (56 g)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Double Relief Formula of Ivarest Poison Ivy Itch Relief Maximum Strength 2 oz product actually does what the label says. The cream contains an antihistamine which "helps stop the reaction" and an analgesic which "soothes itch fast."
Beginning in January of this year I began clearing out two large sections of my yard containing stands of orange canna lilies. Spread amongst them were little trees, and a variety of vines, including, of course, poison ivy. Am I allergic? Oh yes, all I have to do is look at poison ivy and whomp! out pop horrific blisters that I must must scratch.
Over the first three months of steady work in those stands I have cleared out most of the growth, but at a price. Not once, not twice, but three times that ol' nasty poison ivy bit me. I stayed infected with poison ivy bubbles for three months. I used Calamine lotion, but all it did was cover the blisters. I should have gone to my doctor for a shot and will next time.
Instead, I looked around my pharmacy and found Ivarest--you know, rest from ivy! I almost gave four stars because Ivarest does not dry up the blisters, but the label says: "helps stop..." That's exactly what it does: helps. Since I did not go to the trouble of getting a shot, I had to be satisfied with help to stop the reaction. As for relief of itching pain, absolutely, it does soothe and relieve almost immediately.
Next time--hopefully there will NEVER be a next time--I WILL call my doctor!

Zanfel Poison Ivy Cream Review

Zanfel Poison Ivy Cream
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Those who have had one probably agree with me, a massive poison oak or ivy rash is probably one of the most hellish torments there is
Make no mistake about it, when you're desperate to get rid of that all encompasing poison oak or ivy rash you'll be ready to spend pretty much your entire life's savings in order to get some form of relief, so when you see something that claims to get rid of the itch within 30 seconds you think "Praise the lord and makers of zanfel, I am saved!!!"
Not so fast there campers... You might heed the voice of reason and first look it up to see if it's actually worth it to spend this kind of cash on a tiny 1 oz tube. The company's website speaks wonders of it with some before and after pictures of some pretty horrible cases, and those testimonials they have are probably quite exagerated.
I dropped the $39.99 to get this stuff when I had a rash so bad I could barely open my eyes (yes I was desperate).
PLEASE NOTE: I have to admit that this stuff DOES work to a certain extent, the itching will subside in a matter of seconds and you will have some relief for some time.
Sadly for me, and moreso for my bank account, it is far from the miracle cure it claims to be. Also, the ingredients seem to be unstable, I used the balance of what was left in the tube to try and treat a somewhat mild to heavy case I got not too long ago (around 8 months after I bought it) and it had no effect at all, no temporary relief from the itch whatsoever. This company takes advantage of you and the miserable desperate state you're in by charging you a huge markup and promising results you probably will not get.
The people who will be willing to plunk down this kind of money will not have a small localized rash, they will be miserable and if this includes you right now, then I'll tell you: this stuff is useless in your state, go to a doctor and get a cortisone shot and a prescription for prednisone, it cost me 120 bucks for the visit plus 15 bucks for the prednisone, but it actually worked and you will be on your way to sleeping at night under the same treatment.
So again, this stuff DOES work, it's much better than calamine lotion or any other hydrocortisone cream for instant soothing relief when brand new, but it sure isn't worth the $40 you spend on it each time you get poison oak or ivy, and it sure doesn't live up to it's claims of curing you. I felt horrible after using it because I still itched all over and felt stupid on top of it all for believing the hype.
Here is my rating in the 5 stars scale on this thing from a few different viewpoints
-Instant effectivity on soothing your itch (when new): 5 stars
-Overall effectivity on removing your itch: 2 stars
-Lives up to it's claims: 1½ stars
-Value for your money: 1 star
I hope you see what I mean about this stuff, you are welcome to try it but don't say I didn't warn you

Let's just say, I used this product and my husband didn't. We both pulled poison ivy all morning. I did not get any rash, he did in about four different places, the most annoying was his eyelid....use the product.

Zanfel Wash For Poison Ivy, Oak & Sumac (Urushiol) 1 oz Review

Zanfel Wash For Poison Ivy, Oak and Sumac (Urushiol) 1 oz
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm just recovering from a nasty case of poison oak, and I tried everything including hot hair dryers, benadryl, steroids, crushed manzanita leaves, manuka honey, caladryl lotion and Zanfel.
With the Zanfel, it's best to apply it in the shower. That way you can wet the skin, wet your hands, scrub the stuff onto your skin and then rinse it off without soaking your clothes and the bathroom.
It works in the sense that it gets rid of that electric feeling of your skin when you think you'll go mad if you don't scratch. So that's great. However, it does nothing to get rid of the ugly red splotches on your skin. Those still take 10 days to 2 weeks to go away.
Maybe it's different if you catch it the instant it starts but I had it a couple of days before I discovered Zanfel. If you are likely to get poison oak, ivy or sumac in the next year, I'd buy Zanfel online because it's $40 at the drug store.

Tecnu Extreme Medicated Poison Ivy Scrub (4 oz) Review

Tecnu Extreme Medicated Poison Ivy Scrub (4 oz)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am in the middle of enduring a nasty case of poison ivy, mainly located on my forearms. After using calamine, cortisone cream, and Benadryl gel with not much lasting relief, I tried the first other thing I found on the pharmacy shelf.
I didn't really read the bottle very closely-- if I had, I probably would not have purchased it. I didn't see the word "homeopathic" until after I got home and tried it out. I put homeopathy in the same category as astrology and other pseudo-sciences. But to my great surprise, this stuff actually quelled the itching and burning pretty quickly after application.
I still don't believe in the theory behind homeopathy, attributing whatever its claimed "successes" are to the placebo effect. Yet whatever else they put in this stuff apparently has helped my otherwise-intractable rash quite nicely.

Not only does this stuff work right after you have been exposed, but if you lather it up and leave it on the rash to dry, it drys up the rash. I always keep it on hand now...
