Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I sustained an ACL total tear and have been without one for a year, as I elected to have only a partial menisectomy and not an ACL replacement. The result has been an instability in my knee and subsequent reliance on the other leg.
This knee brace from Mueller is a fantastic find, as it dramatically corrects my moderate to severe knee instability and allows me to rely on both legs more evenly. Even thought it may not "feel" as though you have more rigid support, you will find that you can walk straighter and feel less fatigued at the end of the day (I am on my feet all day long).
I prefer wearing this $15 brace to my $300 brace because of the superior comfort, good support, flexibility, and very low profile. I cannot professionally recommend this brace over pro braces for anyone else's injuries, but it works well for me. An if it works well for my kind of injury, I can only imagine how extraordinarily adequate it would be for more minor knee injuries.
There are no hinges, so it fits well under jeans. Unlike cheap wraps, however, Mueller includes flexible metallic supports that hug each side of the knee. These, combined with the standard "elastic" wrap properties carried by most knee braces, create what Mueller calls "above average" support. I previously owned their jointed version, and it was large, cumbersome, and did not foster any more support than this model. Also, this model straps on, and does not "slide" up the knee. FYI I am a 5'10", 160 lb male. I cannot accurately comment on how this would fit underweight or obese individuals.
***UPDATE***
After months of use, I decided to give this 4 stars, as it appears to have somewhat of a lifespan. The elasticity breaks down, requiring you to make it tighter and tighter. It is now more prone to slide down my leg. Subsequently, the stability retained is about 70% of when it was brand new.
