Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry/Pamphlets Review

the book is written in the vain of comparative religion and philosophy as perceived in the mid 1800's and was intended to enlighten members of the scottish rite freemasonry as to what the degrees they went through should bring to mind..each chapter was to represent a degree..each degree was about a year of time of learning and study on the members part..many members never made it to the highest ranks but only to the 14th..it is definitely a hard read but well worth the time, effort and money involved in the pursuit of knowledge, both current and archaic..remember that latin and hebrew were subject that were taught in the 1800's in the schools and is used throughout the book.

The teachings of these Readings are not sacramental, sofar as they go beyond the realm of Morality into those of otherdomains of Thought and Truth. The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Riteuses the word Dogma in its true sense, of doctrine, or teaching; andis not dogmatic in the odious sense of that term. Everyone is entirelyfree to reject and dissent from whatsoever herein may seem to him tobe untrue or unsound. It is only required of him that he shall weighwhat is taught, and give it fair hearing and unprejudiced judgment. Ofcourse, the ancient theosophic and philosophic speculations are notembodied as part of the doctrines of the Rite; but because it is ofinterest and profit to know what the Ancient Intellect thought uponthese subjects, and because nothing so conclusively proves the radicaldifference between our human and the animal nature, as the capacity ofthe human mind to entertain such speculations in regard to itself andthe Deity.Contents: Apprentice; Fellow-craft; Master; Secret Master;Perfect Master; Intimate Secretary; Provost and Judge; Intendant ofthe Building; Elu of the Nine; Elu of the Fifteen; Elu of the Twelve;Master Architect; Royal Arch of Solomon; Perfect Elu; Knight of theEast; Prince of Jerusalem; Knight of the East and West; Knight RoseCroix; pontiff; Master of the Symbolic Lodge; Noachite or PrussianKnight; Knight of the Royal Axe or Prince of Liabanus; Chief of theTabernacle; Prince of the Tabernacle; Knight of the Brazen Serpent;Prince of Mercy; Knight Commander of the Temple; Knight of the Sun orPrince Adept; Scottish Knight of St. Andrew; Knight Kadosh; InspectorInquisitor; Master of the Royal Secret. If you're a Master Mason, you should have read or be reading this book. If you're a new Mason but not a Master yet, you should read this book. It discusses the symbolism of the degrees and a bit of the meaning of each stage of becoming a Master Mason. It puts Freemasonry and the degrees in a light you probably won't get otherwise but every Master Mason should experience. The more you read, the more Masonry will mean to you and the more you'll understand about Masonry.

Adoptive Masonry Illustrated Eastern Star Ritual Review

Adoptive Masonry Illustrated Eastern Star Ritual
Average Reviews:

I used to be a member of Eastern Star, and the one sign I DO remember having had to act out was one where a person takes his/her index fingers & thumbs and forms a triangle. The triangle is then elevated in front of and above the person, while he/she seems to be looking through the triangle.
********** IMPORTANT ***********
This symbolism is representative of the "All Seeing Eye" OR the "Eye of Horus"; both of these titles are symbolic of SATAN (Lucifer, the Devil,"Old Nick", etc.). The problem is that with Eastern Star and ALL OTHER bodies of Freemasonry, the truth is withheld from the members ,so that they believe that membership in these organizations is OK----- BUT, I ASSURE YOU THAT FREEMASONRY IS A SATANIC ORGANIZATION.....DO NOT BE FOOLED!!!!
I WASNOT ONLY AN EASTERN STAR MEMBER, BUT ALSO A 12 year member of other masonic organizations....
PRAISE GOD that I was set free from the spiritual bondage of Freemasonry over 5 years ago.

3. "The Dark Night of Freemasonry" by Manley P. Hall (especially p.40 (?))

The lectures are actually earlier versions of what went into _morals and dogma_. so what makes this interesting are the rituals... but there is no 33 degree ritual unfortunately. I have heard the ones used today are a lot different. kinda pricy for a photocopy reprint, but still well worth it.

Now available after 135 years! One of the rarest and most important books ever published on the Ancient and Accepted (Scottish) Rite of Freemasonry-Albert Pike's Magnum Opus or 'Great Work," being his first revision of the complete rituals of the Scottish Rite.Only 100 copies were printed-less than thirty are said to survive.Pike's ritualistic revisions were so impressive he was made an active member of the Supreme Council and became the most revered Sovereign Grand Commander in the history of the Rite. Thanks to the generous loan of a copy from a European antiquarian, this special reprint makes available to the serious student the complete authentic rituals which served as the foundation of the Scottish Rite's philosophy. This invaluable work is not to be confused with either the various ritualistic 'exposures" of anti-Masons, or the rituals currently used by either American Scottish Rite. The Magnum Opus contains Albert Pike's complete, original text of the Scottish Rite degrees. Some of Pike's rituals were used by other Supreme Councils as a foundation for their own practices; while more recently the Supreme Council 33, Southern Masonic Jurisdiction, U.S.A. has appointed a committee to revise the current Pike rituals. The Magnum Opus allows researchers to trace the divergence to discover shifts in Masonic symbolism. An invaluable reference aid and research tool, the scarcity and cost of an original copy placed it beyond the reach of almost all Masonic bibliophiles. This affordable facsimile reprint places Masonic knowledge where it belongs-in the hands of those seeking Light.Although similar to the current rituals used by the Scottish Rite, it is slightly different and more esoteric. We have also included for the first time ever, the grips and signs, and the key to the "Secret Work."Very essential and rare!Contents: Fourth Degree, Secret Master; Fifth Degree, Perfect Master; Sixth Degree, Confidential Secretary; Seventh Degree, Provost and Ju

The Alchemical Keys To Masonic Ritual Review

The Alchemical Keys To Masonic Ritual
Average Reviews:

This is an excellent book that all Masons should be required to read after completing the Master Masons degree. This book explains the true meaning of many of the allegorical charges in Masonic ritual. Once a Mason realizes there is more to the story they can begin their philosophical journey and become a true, "lover of truth".

This is the first book which establishes a direct link between the rituals of Freemasonry and the practice of both chemical and spiritual alchemy. Albert Pike understood that the symbolic degrees of Freemasonry contained alchemical secrets, but he never put the whole pattern together and showed how. This book shows these connections for the first time. This book is a must for any Freemason who wants to understand the secret meanings behind the Symbolic "Blue Lodge" ritual. Tim Hogan is a PM, 32*KCCH, KT, FRC, PSM-AMD, and Knight RC of the Royal Order of Scotland. He lectures extensively both inside and outside of the United States on Freemasonry.

With so many lodges/chapters/commanderies/valleys changing or adapting ritual to make it more interesting or less time consuming, degree candidates are more beholden than ever to the brothers who confer their degrees. What changes were made? What's been left out? Has the ritual been adapted faithfully? This book will answer those questions. The price isn't bad considering that Masonic books tend to be a bit expensive.

In 1879 Albert Pike, Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, prepared and authorized for sale a collection of books 'for general distribution."Among these was also a collection of rituals, virtually unknown today. These included: 1) Degree of Master Mark Mason, being the work of the Grand Council of Princes of Jerusalem of South Carolina, and the oldest work extentanywhere; 2) The Wigan Ritual, of the Early Grand Encampment. 3) Grade, Mark Mason, Passed Master, and Royal Arch, Rite Ancient Maconnerie D'York.[Were originally translated from English into French, and used in the French West Indies in 1795.]; 4) Knights Templar, former English Ritual. 5) Grand Maitre Ecossais or Scottish Elder Master and Knight of St. Andrew, being the Fourth Degree of Ramsey. 6) Old Ceremony of Royal Arch Exaltation. This new book includes ALL of the above rituals in one volume. These rituals have become some of the scarcest items ever printed by the Supreme Council.Original copies now sell for between US $60 and US $100 each. All of these rituals are extremely important, each for unique reasons. The Master Mark Mason and Wigan Rituals are, for example, early, little-known versions of these degrees; the former lacking much of the Christian symbolism present today, and the latter (supplied by John Yarker), differing significantly from the current ritual. The MaConnerie D'Yorke rituals were obtained in New Orleans, and contain a wealth of historical information relative to their use, including references to Joseph Cerneau, who had long troubled the Southern Jurisdiction by his irregular branch the Scottish Rite. The 'former" EnglishKnights Templar ritual appears to be the authorized revision of 1851, upon which the current ritual is based. The Grand Maitre Ecossais degree is an Hermetic degree which contends that the essential 'secret" of Freemasonry is the Alchemical transmutation of the initiate

Bristol Masonic Ritual: The Oldest and Most Unique Craft Ritual Used in England
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book is only seventy four pages long and can easily be digested over coffee or tea in one evening by those Brethren who love to do comparative studies of Masonic ritual. The esoterica has been purposefully lefted out so this is not an expose, but more of a "ritual guide" for Bristol Freemasons. Following the First and Second Degree portions of the text there are examinations. American Freemasons, reading this book will give you a deeper appreciation for the variety of Masonry which is currently in use by our overseas Brethren and help to prepare you, while visiting overseas, for seeing or hearing ritual procedure which is not used in your own home jurisdictions. It is beautiful to hear of the Nile, the Ganges, the Euphrates, Wandering Arabs, the far distant Chinese, and the Mississippi in Masonic ritual. Well, it's all here for you to enjoy and marvel over in the pages of this book. Buy it today!! Highly recommended.

Bristol Masonry is unlike anything seen elsewhere in England. In the first degree alone one witnesses unusual ceremonies and hears statements which will surprise even the well-read Mason. Have you ever heard "the Nile, the Ganges, the Euphrates, [and the] Mississippi" mentioned in an Entered Apprentice degree? How about "the immeasurable wilds of the scattered Indian tribes across the mighty Atlantic...the wandering Arabs, roaming tartars, or far distant Chinese"? Have you ever seen the "circle of swords," the "cup of affliction" or the "writing test" given to an Entered Apprentice? It is all here, and much more. As one of the most unusual rituals in the English language, Masons travel from all over the world to witness these fascinating ceremonies. Boasting what is probably the oldest Craft working in England, Bristol ritual retains aspects which are similar to the unpublished Irish workings, but also resembles Continental Masonry in some regards. Official or no, most English and Scottish rituals are available through booksellers, but copies of the Bristol ritual are difficult to come by, as the ritual has previously only been circulated in manuscript and typescript, and are frequently sold by used book dealers for as high as £60 per section. By this is meant that the ritual manuscript is divided into sections containing the parts of individual officers, few Brethren having a complete copy of the text. This book collates, for the first time, the entire ritual.

Ritual of Pennsylvania Ancient York Masonry

While this book purports to be PA's ritual it certainly is not the current ritual. Some of the words are similar, but it is in no way the current ritual of PA. Either we have changed very drastically in the past hundred and thirty years, or they used a similar jurisdiction's ritual and called it PA's. Personally, I am leaning in that direction having seen a large number of state's rituals. It seems much closer to New Hampshire's than anything else.

Concerning the Pennsylvania ritual, Albert G. Mackey wrote, "The method of Entering, Passing, and raising candidates in the Lodges of Pennsylvania differs so materially from that practiced in the other States of the Union, that it cannot be considered as a part of the American Rite as first taught by Webb, but rather as an independent, Pennsylvania modification of the York Rite of England.Indeed, the Pennsylvania system of work much more resembles the English than the American. Its ritual is simple and didactic, like the former, and is almost entirely without the impressive dramatization of the latter."This fascinating book contains the complete ritual of the degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason, deciphered from a work dated 1880.Although modern Masonic historians claim that the current Pennsylvania ritual is the "Antients' work," it differs significantly from the ritual used 100 years ago, as revealed herein. For the first time ever, this old ritual makes available the most unusual ritual ever used in American Masonry. If you have never seen the Pennsylvania ritual, this book will give you insight concerning the nature of the Pennsylvania workings, as the editor compares the old and new rituals.Pennsylvania Masons will be amazed at the changes which have been made in their ritual in the last 100 years.

Moorish Circle 7: The Rise of the Islamic Faith Among Blacks in America and it's masonic origins Review

Moorish Circle 7: The Rise of the Islamic Faith Among Blacks in America and it's masonic origins
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I havn't read this book ... But, I would like to comment on a few reviews. For one, just because we can see the evidence of Africans through out the world in different era's, does not mean that all practice the same beliefs or traditions. Noting: that the khametans were not muslims because the moabites may have been. Although both groups were the same in hue and probably shared some distant kinship in view of family clans... there is a big difference in the belief systems of the Khametan spiritual system and that of Islam. For one, the Khametan's acknowledged the female principle as being equal to the male principle, as being the progenitor of the latter. In Islam, Allet which was the female opposite of Allah had been given a back seat doing the time of Mohammad, wether it was his decision or someone in his camp at a later time matters not, considering that the Mohammadans were patriarchs, as it was doing the time of the Mohammadans when Islam was said to be born. If Mohammad was the establisher of Islam doing the 7th century, then there was no Islamic religion predating his time. There is evidence to show that the Arabs had a spiritual practice, but there is no evidence of it being a (organized religion) before the arrival of Mohammad. If so, then were is the evidence? It wasn't until after Mohammad's death that the Islamic religion was used as a weapon against Afrikans and others in the so-called Middle East. There is no evidence that I have seen, that suggestes are shows that the Moors were practicing Islam before the time of Mohammad. Although doing the time of Mohammad, it has been recorded that faithful followers who were merchants traveled and settled in Somalia and certain area's of Ethiopia, influencing the people that they traded with to join the Islamic faith, wether this had a lot to do with trade relationships as the reason, I can't confirm although this is a on going debate.

With that being said, Khamet was a colony of Ethiopia. So, for any settlers who were practitioners of the Khametan Spiritual system they would have taken this practice with them when they cross the red sea to occupy the land for further agricultural growth as well as to escape famine and war. There is evidence of the Sudanic-Ethiopian Empire encompassing Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Middle East(Asia Minor), India(Indus Valley), Europe( before caucasion take over), South China, South America, Central America, North America and a slew of different islands, as you can find pyramids or pyramid mounds in all of these regions. The moral here rings true throughout. Who ever is the dominant male group will influence the weaker groups in language, customs, eating habits, artistic values, spiritualism, etc. This old scenerio has played out over and over again, all one need to do is read on the different conquest of different cultural societies... and investigate the available artiFACTS that proves this beyond any doubt! To respond to the one viewers view of Abduallah meaning, (servant of Allah). This does not confirm the existence of Islam as a religion, this only confirms that before the introduction of the Holy Qua'ran by Mohammad and his followers, Arabs may have had a Spiritual practice that included their view of a Supreme Being whom they refered to as Allah, since the Arabs descended from the Abraham lineage and Abraham was from Ur doing the Chaldean rule. These people more than unlikely were probably followers of whatever the Chaldee's worshiped as a belief albeit there being a difference in representation from clan to clan that would later result in a difference in opinion of what constituted spiritual correctness as rumored by many scholars about the reality of the Arabs before Mohammad. There is a difference between Spiritualism and Religion. Spiritualism is non-political at it's base, were as, religion is just another facet of politics being used as a organized congregation to control people, just as Arabs found it easier to conquer there foes once Islam was born, not everyone followed a brotherly love code but used religion as a front to passify and then administer brute force onced the victims were engulfed in the religious spell of servitude to a Supreme Being, interpreted by the oppressor, just as Africans have been with European Christianity and still are. Also, let me add that the authors view of the Khametan Masonic Order is based on a distorted belief of the Greeks. The Khametan's only had 3 degree's that were centered around the relationship between human's and the Creator as this was further identified through the usage of establishing trigonometry, as the idea was to keep one focused on things that would help them remember the Union and Oneness between Creator and creation in a complimentary manner, which was why the triangle was so important in that society, as it showed division coming from the one or the focal point of existence ( The Creator ), as the pyramid possessed quite a few meanings surrounding the principles of law and order (Maat). Were as, the Greeks who evolved from a warrior class could not grasp such a reality, so created the separatist view of 33(3/3) degree's that mirrored each other in a state of duality which was already a common belief amongst Asians doing that time and before, who were all mostly patriarch groups who were of warrior societies that developed from hunter gatherer groups who warred over hunting zones and land... The Macedonians evolved from a ancient group who originally were a splinter of larger groups that spreaded out from the now called, European Plateau and Caucasia, who settled amongst Ethiopian colonies that they learned from and later conquered.

This book is based on the theory that the black Muslim movement was created from the knowledge of the Masonic order. In the early decades of the 20th century, noble drew ali established a political and religious organization known today as the Moorish Science Temple of America. It was this organization that exposed black to something other than the normal Christian influences of that day. Ali a high degree freemason, incorporated various Masonic teachings from an auxiliary group. Known as the AEAONMS ancient Egyptian Arabic order of noble of the mystic shrine A pseudo Islamic/Arabic oriental organization that served as a wake up call to a lost knowledge. A knowledge that was taken away from Africans during the slave trades. The theory behind this book is that the majority of the slaves that were taken from the west coast of Africa were practicing Muslims, and these Muslims were forced to convert to Christianity under the strong oppression of slavery. At one time Afro-Americans were the biggest minority in the American society. About 90% of the today's population of black's are descendants of slaves that were brought to America for working on plantations since the 16th century. At the beginning of the 19th century most of the so-called Negroes lived in the plantation areas of the Southern States. After the Civil War and the abolition of slavery it wasn't until the early 1920's and 30's that black's were beginning to experiment with other faiths. Of all the faiths Islam became the fastest growing religion and the most popular. This book by far is in no way a research into black history, instead it covers a more deeper aspect of history in which I call the history behind the history. It explores the true Asiatic origins of the ancient religions of Hinduism, Buddhism well as the Islamic faith. Finally It explores the Masonic symbolisms of ali's Moorish science dogma digging deeper into the esoteric side of his Aquarian/Masonic teaching explaining their origins and disco

AFRICAN ORIGINS OF FREEMASONRY: Treatise of the Ancient Grand Lodge of Khamet Review

AFRICAN ORIGINS OF FREEMASONRY: Treatise of the Ancient Grand Lodge of Khamet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let's start with the positives.
First, the information presented here is very important to the African diaspora. The author properly places the ancient African societies of Kemit, Kush and Nubia at the head of the class where they belong. This is not just hot air being blown. The world has to accept the fact that the Greeks and Romans were only average students in the schools of Africa. They were repeating (or just claiming) things they were taught once they were allowed into the greatest schools the world has ever known.
Second, the author's information connecting the Masonic order, the Nation of Islam, the Moorish Science Temple, the 5% Nation and the Universal Negro Improvement Association is eye opening. Now it makes more since that the uniforms, organizational structure and teachings are so similar. It also explains why the groups are still working together. Malcolm X talked about the mockery of the Shriners and the analogy to the plight of African Americans in his book "The End of White Supremecy".
Third, I appreciate that fact that the author is no longer active in the Masonic order but he maintained his oath of secrecy by not saying too much
about the secrets. In this day, many "former Masons" have told "the secrets" since they are no longer in it because they know they can make lots of money talking. (Even though these men have taken an oath of secrecy, they have decided that the oath was not worth keeping. That says alot about their character.)
Now the other side...(These are just my observations)
1. Did anyone proofread this book before sending it to the printer? Starting with the front cover ("Dedicated to the sons and daughters of the of Africa"), there are mispelled words and punctuation mistakes that interfere with the flow of the reading. There are too many subject-verb agreement problems that make this book appear to have been written and typed in one setting. There were compound words that were separated, letters missing and misuse of homophones (using there and not their). It also keeps some people from believing anthing stated because of its appearance as an amateur piece of work.
2. What sources did the author use? There is no bibliography anywhere in this book. As an historian, I like to look at the sources used in many books to read them myself. I want to check the source myself to see if the author's interpretation is accurate. I also like to see if anyone else used the same sources. With the exception of some scattered quotes (incomplete and mispelled), it is really hard for the novice to follow the origin of these earth shattering revelations. People who are just starting to discover the ancient teachings of Mother Alkebulan need to be given more information. There are several books mentioned throughout but sometimes it is not clear if the person mentioned is the author or if the entire title is given. This subject of connecting Africa to the Masonic order has not been handle correctly in the past. This is a valiant attempt to do that.
3. What makes Zachary Gremillion a 90th degree anything? No where in this book is that addressed. He stated that he had been initiated into both the York and Scottish Rites of Modern Freemasonry and into the Shriners, all under Prince Hall affiliations. The Shriner degree doesn't really count as part of either Rite, while the York Rite goes up to the Knights Templar (13th) and the Inspector General on the Scottish Rite (33rd). I'm not sure if his extra degrees came from the Ancient Grand Lodge of Khamet or from somewhere else.
4. What exactly is the Grand Lodge of Khamet and how do we get more information or join? I understand that it is promoting the true teachings of the ancients before they were corrupted by Europeans. But I'm not sure how the organization can claim to have the pure teachings and still use the term Freemason. Referring to one's self as "children of the sun" (the definition of Freemason) is one thing but using the term is misleading.
These are just the things that bothered me while reading. Know this, I would still recommend that people read this book. There is a lot of very interesting explanations given in this book. I believe, unfortuantely, that the mistakes I mentioned above will keep some people from reading the book to the end, particularly those that don't want to hear what Gremillion has to say anyway. Reading part of it only gives you a piece of the light. Reading to the end will help complete the journey and open one's eyes to Africa's past glory and present legacy.

The Masonic Order is one of the most powerful Fraternal Orders in the world. Have you ever wondered why? Why did this order restrict membership to men of European descent? In this book Zachary Gremillion, Founder of the Imperial Society answers the following questions:What do these fraternal orders of Masonry have to do with African people? How did this order originate in Europe, and why were Black men in early America not allowed into membership until the coming of Right Worshipful Master Prince Hall, a colonial Blackman?Who are the Knights Templar? What was their relationship to the African Arabs/Moors also called Saracens? What did the Knights Templar find in Israel? Why were they at Jerusalem Temple built by African Hebrews? In this book Zachary P. Gremillion, a Master Mason, Thirty-second degree Mason and Shriner deals with the true origin of Masonry in Africa. Through intense research he traced what he calls the Proto-Masonic order to ancient Africa. He also deals with the Knights Templar and the Afro-Asiatic knowledge they found at Jerusalem Temple then to be executed, persecuted, and destroyed by the King and Pope. Prince Hall, Marcus Garvey, Noble Drew Ali and Elijah Muhammad are also addressed.

I'm going to keep my review pure and simple. First I myself am NOT a Freemason, and am anti-masonic. I have found masons to be bigoted towards the profane, and favorable to their own, in short its discrimination. With that understood i recommend this book to others who share in my views. The book reveals everything you would learn in the Scottish Rite from its rituals, down to its words, oaths, signs, tokens. etc. Then it explains how these things are anti-Christian. Though I myself am not a Christian, I have no religion, I find the authors view point interesting and correct in its own right.
Highly recommend, even if your not anti-masonic and are pro-masonic or just neutral, and you wish to learn the rituals and what is taught in the Scottish Rite and can get past the authors own personal view point you will find it worth it to pick this up. I know of no where else one can learn all the rituals and what goes with these rituals of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

Valley of the Craftsmen: A Pictorial History: Scottish Rite Freemasonry in America's Southern Jurisdiction, 1801-2001 Review

Founded in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 31, 1801, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite is the largest and most successful of the Masonic organizations. This magnificent, coffee table sized history traces the development of the Scottish Rite from its pre-history in England and France to the present day, in tandem with American history. The profusely-illustrated volume includes paintings, portraits and photos of Masonic ceremonies, of famous Masons (from George Washington to Michael Richards--Seinfeld's "Kramer"), of Masonic regalia (ceremonial clothing and decorations), as well as including a concise and well-written history of the Order. It is a beautiful volume which you will want to open again and again.

Founded in 1801, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry was one of the premier international fraternal orders of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. For more than two hundred years, Freemasonry in America helped define social and cultural arrangements that affected the development of civic life and philanthropic institutions. In Valley of the Craftsmen, the story of "higher degree" Freemasonry is depicted through portraits, official papers, material objects, photographs, buildings, and stagecraft. Featuring many previously unpublished images, Valley of the Craftsmen begins with rare illustrations of the English and French philosophical sources that were projected upon an American landscape vitalized and transformed by the concept of fraternity. The story is framed by American popular culture and the serious private effort of individual men in small towns and expansive cities who were intent on developing a moral life in service to their communities. When the Scottish Rite was officially organized in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1801, its founders and leaders were drawn almost in equal portions from Jewish, Catholic, and Protestant faith communities--an impressive early example of American values, diversity, and religious tolerance. The valley inhabited by members of the Scottish Rite, however, was not always green or free of difficulty. Touched by the first third party in American political history (the anti-Masonic Party), the Civil War, the Red Scare of 1919, the Holocaust, and the rebuilding of societies in Europe and Asia after 1945, Valley of the Craftsmen provides a pictorial history of Scottish Rite Freemasonry in America at the beginning of a new millenium.--This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

Masonry: Beyond the Light Review

Masonry: Beyond the Light

I offer the observation that Bill Schnoebelen is still a satanist, in this sense: Satan, as you recall, is the Father of Lies, and about the only things in this book that are NOT lies are that there is such a thing as Freemasonry, and the author of this book's name is Bill Schnoebelen, and he was at one time a Freemason.
Bill doesn't write his books for Catholics (old Order or RC), Satanists, Wiccans, Mormons, Freemasons -- or vampires(smirk). Rather, he writes his books for those Christians who are afraid of such things as Catholicism, Wicca, Satanism, Mormonism, Freemasonry, and vampires, and are willing to pay a storyteller like Schnoebelen to tell them scary stories about the same. His presentation is of the Christian "testimony" variety, and from this perspective at least, is not unlike that of Mike Warnke or John Todd. I would at the very least "Wiki" Schnoebelen before investing (spiritually, emotionally or financially) in his stories. Oh, and be sure to Wiki ALL these characters, btw. They provide some interesting comparative studies.
Some might think that my remarks are merely ad-hominem attack, but the truth is that in this case, Bill's personal life and character are legitimate areas to question. This is because Bill's own authority in these subjects doesn't come from his deep knowledge of the relevant literatures, but almost entirely from his claim to know by his own firsthand experience. So, the legitimacy of his claims in such matters is important. If, for instance, Bill is claiming to have been a member of Palladian Masonry and there is no such thing, then one might conclude that Bill's lie precludes the possibility that surrounding claims might be true.
The timelines of Bill's stories alone are nigh well impossible unless he was being duplicitous. I'd suggest that not only WAS he being duplicitous, but that this is a pattern that continues in his current life -- as evidenced by the books he publishes, and the sometimes silly claims he makes. Bill was certainly a Wiccan (aka Christopher P. Syn), a Mormon, a Freemason, and a Catholic (Old Order, not Roman Catholic and he certainly was never a Jesuit). Maybe he was a Satanist as well. The actual timeline for these associations present problems in terms of his "testimony," in terms of his personal integrity, and in terms of the overall validity of his claims.
Some of the evidentiary material which Schnoebelen uses to discredit Freemasonry in this book are long-since proven hoaxes and frauds. This is not only known because they have internal inconsistencies, falsehoods and outright impossibilities which prove them to be frauds, but in the case of Leo Taxil at least, also because the perpetrator admitted to the hoax when they were caught by the press.
I would like to say you should "pass" on this book. However, for the critical reader who is familiar with the structure of Freemasonry and its history, the book presents an interesting study of how a master deceiver spins a web of lies to catch both popularity and money from a superstitious community. As many non-Masons are spreading the claims of this book far and wide, familiarity will allow for the best factual responses by Masons faced with questions based upon Schnoebelen's material. As a corrective to the unmitigated nonsense of "Masonry Beyond the Light," I'd like to recommend Is it True What They Say About Freemasonry?, Revised, which is not written as a response to Schnoebelen, but nevertheless provides solid answers to similar issues.

Many Christians believe Freemasonry is a fine, Christian organization. But as Bill Schnoebelen climbed to Freemasonry's 32nd degree he discovered horrifying facts about this organization that lower level Freemasons never learn. Now a born again Christian, Schnoebelen reveals all.
