The Lost Keys of Freemasonry Review

The Lost Keys of Freemasonry
Average Reviews:

If you're a Master Mason, you should have read or be reading this book. If you're a new Mason but not a Master yet, you should read this book. It discusses the symbolism of the degrees and a bit of the meaning of each stage of becoming a Master Mason. It puts Freemasonry and the degrees in a light you probably won't get otherwise but every Master Mason should experience. The more you read, the more Masonry will mean to you and the more you'll understand about Masonry.

Ritual of Pennsylvania Ancient York Masonry Review

Ritual of Pennsylvania Ancient York Masonry
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While this book purports to be PA's ritual it certainly is not the current ritual. Some of the words are similar, but it is in no way the current ritual of PA. Either we have changed very drastically in the past hundred and thirty years, or they used a similar jurisdiction's ritual and called it PA's. Personally, I am leaning in that direction having seen a large number of state's rituals. It seems much closer to New Hampshire's than anything else.

Concerning the Pennsylvania ritual, Albert G. Mackey wrote, "The method of Entering, Passing, and raising candidates in the Lodges of Pennsylvania differs so materially from that practiced in the other States of the Union, that it cannot be considered as a part of the American Rite as first taught by Webb, but rather as an independent, Pennsylvania modification of the York Rite of England.Indeed, the Pennsylvania system of work much more resembles the English than the American. Its ritual is simple and didactic, like the former, and is almost entirely without the impressive dramatization of the latter."This fascinating book contains the complete ritual of the degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason, deciphered from a work dated 1880.Although modern Masonic historians claim that the current Pennsylvania ritual is the "Antients' work," it differs significantly from the ritual used 100 years ago, as revealed herein. For the first time ever, this old ritual makes available the most unusual ritual ever used in American Masonry. If you have never seen the Pennsylvania ritual, this book will give you insight concerning the nature of the Pennsylvania workings, as the editor compares the old and new rituals.Pennsylvania Masons will be amazed at the changes which have been made in their ritual in the last 100 years.

Scotch Rite Masonry Illustrated, Part 1: The Complete Ritual of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite
Average Reviews:

I'm going to keep my review pure and simple. First I myself am NOT a Freemason, and am anti-masonic. I have found masons to be bigoted towards the profane, and favorable to their own, in short its discrimination. With that understood i recommend this book to others who share in my views. The book reveals everything you would learn in the Scottish Rite from its rituals, down to its words, oaths, signs, tokens. etc. Then it explains how these things are anti-Christian. Though I myself am not a Christian, I have no religion, I find the authors view point interesting and correct in its own right.
Highly recommend, even if your not anti-masonic and are pro-masonic or just neutral, and you wish to learn the rituals and what is taught in the Scottish Rite and can get past the authors own personal view point you will find it worth it to pick this up. I know of no where else one can learn all the rituals and what goes with these rituals of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

Average Reviews:

Founded in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 31, 1801, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite is the largest and most successful of the Masonic organizations. This magnificent, coffee table sized history traces the development of the Scottish Rite from its pre-history in England and France to the present day, in tandem with American history. The profusely-illustrated volume includes paintings, portraits and photos of Masonic ceremonies, of famous Masons (from George Washington to Michael Richards--Seinfeld's "Kramer"), of Masonic regalia (ceremonial clothing and decorations), as well as including a concise and well-written history of the Order. It is a beautiful volume which you will want to open again and again.

Founded in 1801, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry was one of the premier international fraternal orders of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. For more than two hundred years, Freemasonry in America helped define social and cultural arrangements that affected the development of civic life and philanthropic institutions. In Valley of the Craftsmen, the story of "higher degree" Freemasonry is depicted through portraits, official papers, material objects, photographs, buildings, and stagecraft. Featuring many previously unpublished images, Valley of the Craftsmen begins with rare illustrations of the English and French philosophical sources that were projected upon an American landscape vitalized and transformed by the concept of fraternity. The story is framed by American popular culture and the serious private effort of individual men in small towns and expansive cities who were intent on developing a moral life in service to their communities. When the Scottish Rite was officially organized in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1801, its founders and leaders were drawn almost in equal portions from Jewish, Catholic, and Protestant faith communities--an impressive early example of American values, diversity, and religious tolerance. The valley inhabited by members of the Scottish Rite, however, was not always green or free of difficulty. Touched by the first third party in American political history (the anti-Masonic Party), the Civil War, the Red Scare of 1919, the Holocaust, and the rebuilding of societies in Europe and Asia after 1945, Valley of the Craftsmen provides a pictorial history of Scottish Rite Freemasonry in America at the beginning of a new millenium.--This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

Like most of the books in the `Complete Idiot's Guide' series, Dr. S. Brent Morris,' "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Freemasonry" gives a well-written overview and introduction to its topic: the history and practice of Freemasonry.
The book is divided into five major sections, consisting of 18 chapters and additional appendices.

Appendixes:

B.Further Reading, Websites, and Contact Information
C.Masonic Rituals
D.Famous Freemasons
IndexThe Complete Idiot's Guide to Freemasonry is well-written and easy to read, being easily read from cover to cover within a single day. While one may certainly choose to read the book from cover to cover (I did), it is also a book that serves as a useful reference of Masonic facts and trivia, history and practice.
Dr. Morris explains the Symbolic, Blue or Craft Lodges covering the first three degrees of Freemasonry. And gives us a look into the associated bodies such as the Royal Arch Masons, Cryptic Masons, and Commanderies of Knights Templar within the York Rite, and 4th through 33rd Degrees of the Scottish Rite. We also learn of women and Freemasonry, with such associated groups as The Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of Amaranth. And mention is given to co-masonry and the Order of Women Freemasons.
We learn of the research lodges and societies, such as the: Quatuor Coronati Lodge, the National Masonic Research Society, and the Philalethes Society. And we learn of other Masonic Groups such as the Royal Order of Scotland, the Masonic Societas Rosicruciana in Civitatibus Foederatis, and National Sojourners.
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Freemasonry also has fun and interesting bits of trivia and Masonic facts that give one a bit more insight into different parts of the Craft. For example what's the connection between Freemasons and Rolling Rock Beer (find out on page 188 - 189).
The author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Freemasonry, Dr. S. Brent Morris, is the managing editor of the `Scottish Rite Journal', a 33-degree Mason, and on the graduate faculty at George Washington University. Eminently well qualified to write this book, Dr. Morris has given us a book that makes a worthy addition to any Freemason's library, as well as a fine introduction to the Craft for any good man who seeks some additional understanding of the rites of Freemasonry when considering making a petition for acceptance into his local Masonic Lodge.

99 Degrees of Freemasonry: Turning the Solomon Key

The Masonic brother Klovekorn writes about the craft with a certain zeal and sincerity not often seen in European writers on the topic. The images situated in the middle of the book enhances the quality of the work abundantly. Don't be mislead by the title, he pretty much covers your basic Masonic motifs, landmarks, and tools etc.
I am in agreement with his assertion I quote "A lack of judgement has been shown by many Masonic jurisdictions in lossening membership entry requirements in a vain attempt to bolster membership numbers the general effect has been the infiltration of the rite by people only scantily interested in practising the art of Masonry, but who join to satisfy their superficial curiosities or to gain networks."
I also agree with his opinion of contemporary lodges initiating people but not teaching the true essence, allegory and symbolism of Freemasonry. Overall a very good treatise on Masonry from the craft lodge to the rite of Memphis & Misraim.

From the secret corridors of Scotland's Rosslyn Chapel to the dark crypts of Hitler's SS, the rise and fall of fraternal societies has shaped our world. Bro. Henning A. Klovekorn, in "99 Degrees of Freemasonry: Turning the Solomon Key" provides an inspirational and thought-provoking analysis of the philosophies, allegories and symbolism of Freemasonry. Take a journey of unrivaled passion from Knight Templar graves, hidden symbolism in European art to previously unpublished photos of the temples of the Grand Orient of France. This publication begins with the startling evidence of a European origin of Freemasonry and ends in the revelation of the highest ritual degrees of the Freemason Order. A must read for fans of the "Da Vinci Code" and sequel.

This book was written for the purpose of showing what the Egyptian Masonic Rite of Memphis really is; as some of the Craft have not had the advantages of Masonic libraries, and have been made to believe that it is an innovation on the other Rites or Systems....The Masonic order of Memphis is...the sole depository of high Masonic science, the true primitive rite, the supreme rite, that which has come down to us without any alteration....In fine, the Rite of Memphis is the true Masonic tree, and all other systems, whatever they may be, are only detached branches of this institution, rendered respectable by its vast antiquity. This book is THE ONLY HISTORICAL WORK IN PRINT COVERING THE EVOLUTION OF THE RITE OF MEMPHIS IN THE UNITED STATES by one of its original members and leaders. It includes the complete texts of documents not obtainable elsewhere and also fascinating extracts from numerous rituals of the Rite of Memphis (including the Rose Croix) before it was abbreviated by Harry J. Seymour and/or John Yarker. Also included are the complete texts of the Forty-third Degree, Adept Installator, Forty-fourth Degree, Grand Consecrator, and Forty-fifth Degree, Grand Eulogist rituals.

Do what thou Will shall be the whole of the Law.
These rituals are those of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis. However, here they are incomplete. This book covers, however briefly, the 34th through the 97th degrees. A much better and more complete edition has been published by Bishop
T. Allen Greenfield, "The Compleat Rite Of Memphis", available through Amazon from Luxor Press. Greenfield's edition contains almost all the material herein and expands beyond it, beginning with the complete signs, words, knocks, grips, acclaimations, & insignia, including the Lodge Opening in the 18th Degree, (Knight of the Rose Croix).
This book contains a single page of perhaps relevant material not found in Greenfield's work cited above: a single-page, hand-written Appendix of the 34' Knight of Scaninavia Runic Cypher, the 64' Sage of Mythras Ammanian Alphabet, the 75' Knight Commander of the Lybic Chain, and the 90' Sublime Master of the Great Work. There are no notes or explanations to this page.
The book also contains 22 pages of Masonic clip art pertaining to absolutely nothing with the rest of the book.
Love is the Law, Love under Will.

The Rite of Memphis aggravated members of "conventional" Freemasonry because it claimed not only to be the true source of Masonic wisdom but to be the ONLY legitimate Masonic system! Its rituals were much more esoteric than those commonly encountered in "regular" Freemasonry. Many colorful personalities allied themselves with this system, including Karl Kellner, Theodore Reuss and Aleister Crowley. In England, the Rite was under the direction of John Yarker, while in the United States, Harvey Spencer Lewis, of AMORC fame, also made use of these degrees. This fascinating book is a reprint of John Yarker's manuscript-"The Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis in 95-Book Third-Series III Consistory and Grand Council."It includes Yarker's last revision of the 34-96 rituals inclusive, plus the "secret work.

Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Review

Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one heavy brick of a book! From page one Albert Pike leads us through the 33 degrees of The Ancient and Scottish Rite, theoretically. The rituals themselves are not described, the book functions as a sort of theory injection to the rituals. "Morals and Dogma" is the Magnum Opus of Albert Pike, written exclusively for Scottish Rite masons, but other mason will enjoy this book too, I would say that anyone with any interest in history, philosophy, ethics and esotericism will find this extremely helpful.
Albert Pike shows through this book how Freemasonry consists of several religions, not only one. He takes us through the similiarities in all religions, and tries to find the true essence in all of them. This will be helpful for christian masons who think that Freemasonry only is about Jesus and Hiram Abiff. Pike shows us that the Order has a lot of its history and symbolism from Zoroaster and the Indo Aryans, worshippers of Fire and Light.
From the ethical, simple working tools of the Blue Lodge, to the christian ethics and mysticism of the Chapter of Rosy Cross, to the Aryan and Parsee worshipping of Light, which the Templars continued from the essenees and the Zoroastrians, this books leads the reader through darkness and light, laughter and bafflement, to education and deep thought, dicipline.
A non-mason will also enjoy this book, filled with speculations and facts about the religions that affect the world so much. I recommend this book so much and whole heartedly that I am out of words now. Enjoy .:.

Morals and Dogma of the Scottish Rite Craft Degrees
Average Reviews:

Have you ever read Pike's Report to Jefferson Davis"? This was his report to Davis during Pike's Civil War years. It was as clear as a bell and perfectly readable and understandable. Pike did not write his Masonic works in the complex, difficult to read way he did because he HAD to write that way. He wrote that way because it is the way he WANTED to write. It is the same with A.E. Waite. Waite writes in the same difficult manner, but even more condescending than Pike. This was because neither cared about selling books, they wanted to teach something and they wanted you to work for it. Neither were going to spoon feed education to anyone. The value of what they were teaching is one aspect, but the other aspect is how they delivered their message. In the case of Pike, he deliberately wanted you to focus completely on what he was writing and structured it in such a way as to make it as difficult as possible. Either you were going to work to understand what he wrote or you were going to toss it aside or misunderstand. It is just the way it is.
To read Pike and to compare him with an easy to read writer is the same as eating chocolate ice cream and then complain that it is not strawberry.
This book is a must for anyone who has a desire to know more about Pike's view of the philosophy of the early degrees of the AASR. But, fair warning, it takes some work and no one should expect anything but the "work for what you get" philosophy.
For another important Pike work, see: Readings XXXII: Instructions in the Thirty-Second Degree
