my son suffers from eczema and unfortunately has this irrestible urge to itch...his skin had become as rough as leather and we didnt know what to do- our doctor had recommended using hydrocortisone to help the itching, but we were avoiding it because of steroids and my baby was only 2 months old then! so eventually with his skin condition worsening- him not sleeping and crying all the time, we decided to give it a shot-i bought the aveeno version of it and his skin transformed overnight to babies skin...i ran out of it and used plain hydrocortisone cream- his skin went back to being rough again- i then ordered more of the aveeno version and his skin is back to being like how it was when he was born! it is just fabulous! it is so worth the extra dollars.....its a life saver! my son is happier now and his skin is just gorgeous!

Freederm HC - Eczema - Dermatitis - Skin Rash cream Review

Freederm HC - Eczema - Dermatitis - Skin Rash cream
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This cream worked wonders for me after I started using it in January 2007. I am a chronic eczema sufferer - have had it since I was a baby - and have never been able to live without super strength cortisone. Freederm's combination of the mild (1%) cortisone and anti-microbial (benzalkonium chloride) entirely cleared up all my milder eczema problem areas (face, arms, torso) and significantly improved my severe hand eczema. I was ecstatic. But when reordered, the product that came was completely different - no cortisone, no antimicrobial, totally different base. I admire Freederm's effort to make a nonmedicated cream. However, this new formulation not only doesn't work for me, it actually irritates my skin. I am baffled by Freederm's apparent decision not to offer both versions. And I also feel that it is not truthful for them to post all the glowing testimonials when the testimonials are for an entirely different product.
For fans of the discontinued medicated product, I found a great dermatologist at Stanford who recommends mixing cortisone (the lowest strength that works for you) with antibacterial cream (Bactroban - you need a prescription). Same theory and works as well as the old Freederm medicated cream.

Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment, 3-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 2) Review

Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment, 3-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 2)
Average Reviews:

My daughter had such bad diaper rash that she had sores on her bottom. We tried EVERYTHING!!!! It got so bad we had to go once a week to the doctor for medication and "prescribed" diaper creams...nothing worked. Got the Dr. Smiths idea from another mom....in 4 days her diaper rash cleared up and we were able to keep it at bay with Dr. Smiths. This is the best kept mommy secret ever. Due to the cost we only used Dr. Smiths when it looked like a diaper rash may start or in the summer for heat rash. I even found the product works great on my older children and myself for irritation, heat rash and other irritations. When I say this is Gold in a Jar....I'm not kidding!!! I know give this as a baby gift to all new mommies...never fails I get a call of thanks within the first 6 months and a "this stuff is great...I'm so glad you turned me on to Dr. Smiths!" No need for Dr. Smiths "rash" care...this is it!!!!! Good luck and Happy bottoms!

Eczemaderm - Naturally Medicated Treatment Cream for Eczema Review

Eczemaderm - Naturally Medicated Treatment Cream for Eczema
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had eczema off and on my whole life. I would go to the doctor and he would give me a cream that would not work or tell me to use a cortisone cream. The cortisone cream would kind of work, but the eczema would flare up again, when I stopped using it. I feel that cortisone cream is kind of a band aid for eczema. It does not fix the problem.
My sister-in-law told me about Eczemaderm about a year ago and I decided to try it. I remember my first thoughts when I applied the cream... it felt a bit waxy, but not greasy. It also has a bit of a medical smell to it, like something they would give you from a pharmacy. Immediately after applying the cream the itching pretty much stopped. I was happy about that. After a day, I noticed that the eczema was getting better and after 3-4 days it was completely gone. I still get flare ups and I use the cream when I notice it coming on. I also use the cream when I don't have eczema to help prevent it from coming if I get the feeling that I may get a flare up. That seems to work too.

Mederma for Kids - 20 gm Review

Mederma for Kids - 20 gm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Mederma itself seems to be helping - only time and much diligence will tell - but what I am rating here is the Kid's version. I recommend buying the regular Mederma instead. The Mederma for Kid's is supposed to go on purple & dry clear, but it hasn't yet dried clear for me. Now I have been liberally applying Mederma to my son's facial scar, massaging & rubbing in for a few seconds (using a circular motion), then wiping the excess off around the wound only... leaving some excess directly over the wound. The Mederma stays on & even where I have wiped off the excess the purple tint remains. I have since bought the regular clear Mederma & the tube is much neater & it doesn't have much of a smell at all (unlike the Mederma for Kids). The Mederma for Kid's adds 2 dyes (violet & red) which are unnecessary for scar improvement and possibly even harmful. When I addressed this and another question to Merz (the makers of Mederma) in an email, they answered the one question, but skirted my concern over the dyes. My other question? I wanted to know if Mederma helped with indented scars, because that's what my son is left with after having stitches. Apparently in the world of Plastic Surgery the belief is that indented (hypotrophic) scars are more esthetically pleasing then raised (hypertrophic) scars. I would actually prefer a raised scar over an elongated pot-mark. There is much more potential for scar revision on raised scars. Depressed or pitted scars are usually filled, but collagen injections are a waste of time... they don't last, so what's the point? So will Mederma help with indented scars? Merz says no. But I am hopeful none-the-less because I have seen some improvement. Scientifically Mederma improves "dermal collagen organization" according to an unbiased experiment with Mederma. What that means, I'm not sure. But get this... Merz makes another scar cream that is not available in the US. It's called Contractubex. It has the onion extract, but has an additional ingredient: heparin. According to the Merz website (www.merz.com) this ingredient works together with the onion extract. They "enhance and complement each other". Too bad it's not sold here. In the meantime, I will continue with the Mederma & maybe write another review after 8 weeks.

Rite Aid Calamine Lotion Skin Protectant 8 fl oz (236 ml) Review

Rite Aid Calamine Lotion Skin Protectant 8 fl oz (236 ml)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used Rite Aid's calamine lotion on several occasions for poison ivy; it always does a great job. I simply apply it and let it dry. For poison ivy I always put some on a cotton pad to wipe it on with instead of simply using my hands.
In addition, I recently discovered a new use for calamine lotion. I was diagnosed with shingles, and believe me there are patches of the skin rash and pimply looking area that hurt, itch--or sometimes hurt and itch at once! My doctor told me to apply this to the affected area and let it dry; and so far the calamine lotion is doing a good job of helping me. While I always use a cotton pad to apply this when I have poison ivy, I haven't used a cotton pad to apply this to the areas of my skin that are affected by shingles.
Of course, your doctor may want you to use this differently depending on your specific circumstances. If you have any questions about calamine lotion consult a pharmacist or your physician.

Cortizone 10 Intensive Healing Lotion, Eczema and Itchy, Dry Skin 3.5 oz (99 g) Review

Cortizone 10 Intensive Healing Lotion, Eczema and Itchy, Dry Skin 3.5 oz (99 g)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After battling severe eczema for nine months, including a hospital stay, I finally found this stuff. It's wonderful! I mean, I can sleep again. But it took me a little time to see how it works. I had eczema on my arms and hands and fingers. My fingers would crack and peel and crack and peel at the knuckles. Then the new skin would crack again almost immediately.
It says this cream contains seven moisturizers. One of them seems to be a waxy layer that works it's way to the top and becomes almost like a second skin. It has to "rest" for about 15 minutes, at which time it settles in; it can sting a bit until then. Once it's dry, but still feels "waxy" the pain goes away. If you try to apply more while it still has that waxy feel (about five to six hours) the waxy stuff will just gum up. For my knuckles, I would put it on with my fingers clenched. It provided a "skin" on top of my new skin which strengthened it until the skin was strong enough to not crack anymore.
I've had the best results with rinsing off and then reapplying after seven to eight hours, after the waxy feeling is gone. This has worked very well. This is the best product I've tried and I've tried just about everything. Early on, though, when my eczema was really bad, I think it might have stung too much. The gentlest lotion I found was Vanicream Lite (make sure it's the Lite) which I would recommend if your skin is really painful. Then go on to this stuff.

I and my sons have eczema. We have been to the doctors and had prescribed treatments that don't even come close to what this product was able to do. I short it makes the condition almost non-existent. I apply a small amount to the affected area two times a day and our skin is so clear and soft. I am totally sold on this product.

Terrasil Therapeutic Skin Cream 14g Jar Review

Terrasil Therapeutic Skin Cream 14g Jar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using Terrasil for around 5 years. I've used it to heal a wide range of skin problems. It has totally replaced around 5 other ointments/creams/gels/lotions in my medicine cabinet:
1) a nasty second-degree burn (Terrasil completely healed in 5 days with absolutely no scare remaining) (great on sunburns too),
2) acne (Terrasil makes my emerging zits disappear over night),
3) cuts and scrapes (Terrasil heals them in a few days)
4) poison ivy (forget calamine lotion; Terrasil breaks down the urushiol, reduces the itching and blisters faster),
As you can see, I can't recommend Terrasil enough. Buy some for yourself and loved ones.
Oh, btw, my mom had shingles rash and pain a few years ago. I gave her some Terrasil to rub into her skin and within 2 days she reported the pain was totally gone. Around six months later she had another shingles outbreak, and again, with Terrasil, the pain was gone in two days.

Gold Bond Anti-Itch Lotion 5.5 oz Review

Gold Bond Anti-Itch Lotion 5.5 oz
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My skin was itching, this defintely helped. The only suggestion I would make for those with very dry skin, which this does not alleviate is to use Cetaphil Restoderm moisturizer. The goldbond product definitely does stop the itching, but its not that much of a moisturizing to help very dry skin so that it can be healed and prevented for the future, for that I can recommened the cetaphil restoderm moistuzer.
Goldbond makes good products, this one was very good at stopping the itching.

Zeasorb AF Super Absorbent Antifungal Powder 2.5 oz (70.9 g) Review

Zeasorb AF Super Absorbent Antifungal Powder 2.5 oz (70.9 g)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had what might be clinically described as an, ahem, overly sweaty crotch area for the past 30 something years. I started self treating it with corn starch (yes, recommended by Ken Kesey) and baby powder and then the Gold Bond products (regular in winter, extra strengh in summer), which worked just fine as long as I lived in the desert southwest (av. humidity 10%). Soon after I moved to Memphis (av humidity 70%), things went horribly out of control and I found myself in a dermotologists office displaying a truly world class example of (ahem) crotch rot. He said that the Gold Bond products were starch based and the local fungal critters just thrived on starch. Yum. He suggested Zeasorb-AF which has a talc (mineral) base and has really done the trick. Expensive though, at around $8.00 for 2.5 oz at Walgreens. But then, I'll pay anything. Anything.

TriDerma MD Eczema Fast Healing 2.2 oz (62 g) Review

TriDerma MD Eczema Fast Healing 2.2 oz (62 g)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
**I'm posting this review on my husband's account, not my own (I actually don't have one)
I never leave reviews, but this product is working so well that I wanted to let others know how it has helped my son.
He is now a little over 4.5 months old and has had eczema spreading across his forehead and down to his cheeks since he was two months. The pediatrician originally gave us an anti-fungal cream to manage the rash, but there was no effect. At his 4 month well-check, we received a Rx for Alclometasone Dipropianate Cream, USP 0.05%. It worked amazingly well, and his skin was soft and smooth in 4 days. But, the label says that it's not recommended for children under 1 and the pediatrician was very clear that we not exceed 7 days of use and that we cease use earlier once his skin cleared. His skin remained clear for about a day and a half, but then a small patch of rash appeared on his forehead.
We began using Cetaphil lotioin to moisturize throughout the day and California Baby Calendula Cream, in an attempt to control the inflammation without the use of steroids (several reviews and message board posts mentioned its effectiveness). The combination seemed to slow the spread of the rash, initially, but his face and cheeks were soon covered again (worse than before we used the Rx cream).
We discontinued use of the Calendula cream, thinking it might be too strong and causing irritation. We continued with the Cetaphil, which seemed to provide temporary moisture and relief from the itching, but did nothing to control the rash and required numerous applications throughout the day.
A co-worker informed me that she has been using TriDerma to control her son's eczema since he was an infant (he's now 2), and suggested that I give it a try. We have been using TriDerma for 4 days, now. There was little noticeable difference in the first 2 days, but we've seen great improvement since then. It doesn't appear to be working as quickly at the Rx cream, but it is definitely working and appears to be following the same stages of healing as with the Rx cream.
I am so thankful! The rash was beginning to spread to his nose and eyelids, but is now receding, and we are hopeful that his skin will soon clear completely.

Gold Bond Medicated Anti-Itch Cream, 2-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 3)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Last night I got a strange (allergic ?) reaction. My legs from the ankle to my knees became lobster red and extremely itchy. So itchy that I was using my metal hairbrush to scratch.
My husband ran to the pharmacy but because they were closed he ended up buying every single anti-itch cream they had, including Gold Bond.
I literally tried then all. None of them provided the relief I needed except for Gold Bond. The relief was almost immediate with Gold Bond and I was finally able to go to sleep after putting it on.
All the others, no relief at all. It was like I hadn't even put any anti-itch cream on.
I really thought I was going to lose my mind last night. Gold Bond saved my sanity.
Today, not a sign that I even had a problem. I did put the Gold Bond on, just in case. :o)
U P D A T E: Turns out I did have an allergic reaction.... to my birth control pill - Yaz. As soon as I stopped taking it, the rash went away, but the Gold Bond was a life saver while trying to figure this out.
