Adventure Medical Kits Dental Medic Kit Review

Adventure Medical Kits Dental Medic Kit

Nobody has to be told how much a toothache can hurt. I have had toothaches before that have throbbed so heavily that I would have gladly traded it for a shotgun blast to a limb anytime. Toothaches inflict us for different reasons. Sometimes its a tooth that we know was giving us trouble for quite a while, and now it has decided to gain our attention with a vengeance. Other times its a filling that falls out where the nerve can possibly be exposed, a loose crown or bridge, or even a broken tooth after an accident. Anyone that has had any of these unfortunate events befall them know how extremely painful it can sometimes be. And, we all know how our dentist just seems to feel a disturbance in the force beforehand, and be off somewhere on a beach enjoying lobster and cracked crab just when we need them most. We could very well end up being at the mercy of trusting some unknown prospector with a dental pic, and at the very least being in the hole for a whole lot of hard earned cash.
The Adventure Medical Dental Kit is something I have had along in my car on every vacation, and in my backpack on every wilderness excursion for years now. And on a hike in 2006, I actually ended up needing it. A fresh filling from a couple of months before suddenly took a notion to come tumbling out, and in just a few minutes I was feeling the aching that was sure to turn into agony eventually. (I had waited for some time before going to the dentist, and the hole he drilled rivaled the grand canyon). I was at least 2 hours away from an established trail, and in another state in any event upon my arrival back in civilization. This kit contained all that I needed to set a good solid temporary filling that along with some oil of clove that is also included in the kit, eventually quelled the pain entirely. I decided to trust it and not cut my hike short. I never felt a thing for the entire rest of the trip, or on the way home.
The Dental Medic Kit contains materials for temporary fillings, pain tincture, cement for loose crowns, and even material for temporary bridge repair. Just try to imagine being far away from home or civilization for any given reason and having such a painful emergency arise. This kit is a must carry along for any excursion that takes you beyond your city limits in my opinion. It is very reasonably priced, easy to use, and has very clear instructions. And, it is also something that is very hard to find anywhere but online. I advise you to pick it up here on Amazon. And one last thing. Despite the other reviewer here that made it a direct point in making us all aware that this kit is for temporary repair only, my own personal experience was that there was definitely no big rush. I ended up keeping my temp repair for almost 2 months before I finally got around to getting it professionally repaired. (I had to locate another dentist that filled teeth that actually stay filled). The kit itself makes it perfectly clear that all its repairs are for emergencies, and on a temporary basis. They are certainly not going to be so stupid as to tell you that "the repair is cool, so don't knock yourself out". "Whenever you get around to it". The real truth as to its being transitory lies somewhere between racing off to the dentist like a maniac, and moseying on over there 6 months later, or if an when you ever think of it. Most repairs done with this kit will last for quite a reasonable amount of time. (Unless its strictly an aching tooth from decay. All this kit will offer then is pain killer, that will eventually get overwhelmed, and so will you. Get to a dentist). If you end up having to use this kit for any other reason, relax, it makes a very good temporary repair. Don't venture far from home without it. Highly recommended...

I ordered this for my daughter, see liked it a lot, particularly the many compartments and organization. Has pretty much everything you would need. The thermometer is a very cheap one-use type and I would recommend augmenting the kit with a better one.

Adventure Medical Kits Pocket Survival Pack Review

Adventure Medical Kits Pocket Survival Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Doug Ritter and his foundation, Equipped to Survive, has come up with a very economic method to equip yourself and your family with an emergency kit. It is small enough to carry unnoticed in a pocket, yet fully functional.
Although you can control the amount of certain items if you put together your own kit (something of a rite of passage among the survivalists/emergency preparedness folk), I spent twice as much putting together a comparable kit. The military issue sparklite and tinder-quick, Fox-40 whistle, and Rescue Flash signal mirror alone could cover the cost of the kit and they are all top notch gear. This pack is extremely high quality through and through, from choice of equipment to packing and instructions. I recommend looking at the ETS website at the slideshow of how such a kit is put together and what Doug Ritter himself recommends that you add to the kit (the pouch can hold a few more small items such as water purification tabs).
The Pocket Survival Pack is an amazing value. I've purchased all of the items separately, and just the shipping or driving to pick up 3 or 4 of the items probably covers half the cost! If you are lucky enough to get everything at one store, you'd be hard pressed to get the entire kit as cheap as this. I know people who have purchased this kit to take the parts for their own self-built survival kits! That's how economical it is. Plus, if you buy this PSP, a portion of the proceeds goes to the ETS non-profit group which gives free survival consulting to deployed troops and is actively involved in improving survival equipment and standards. In fact, Doug Ritter is the only consumer advocate working with the governing body on personal locator beacons used in marine, aviation, and remote travel.
The kit itself comes in a waterproof container. I found it to be a bit tight when closing back up, but there is actually some room for more items. All components are of the highest quality. It's lightweight and I never notice it in a pocket. With the recommended ETS or similar keychain LED flashlight and a good pocket folding knife, you have a complete survival kit that rivals ones costing $100+. These are cheap enough to get one for each car and any camping/hiking/marine/aviation gear you might have. I highly recommend this PSP. I'm not affiliated with ETS, but I've come to appreciate their no-nonsense advice and forums. And if this was a bad kit, I'd still say so. I give it 5 stars, great value for the price and it really could save your life.

Adventure Medical Kits Suture/Syringe Medic Kit Review

Adventure Medical Kits Suture/Syringe Medic Kit
Average Reviews:

I admire the seller of this product for compiling a set of sterile medical supplies for the public, but I think they are doing a disservice by charging such a large mark-up for the very limited amount of goods provided.
I have built a similar kit piecemeal from other vendors, not for travel - simply to be prepared. My total out of pocket price was less than $7.00, and I actually got multiples of all of the items contained. The needles and syringes are available at almost any farm store, and are the same quality. Also, the needles included in this kit are far too long for most purposes, 1" or 3/4" would be preferable.
I'm not sure what the catheter would be used for in an emergency situation without an adapter plug or administration set, but I'm sure the intended customer can buy that along with a couple of liters of fluids in another kit from this vendor...
Comparable RETAIL prices, not wholesale - bulk prices are much better:
Sterile 3cc syringes, Google shopping = less than $14 per box of 100 with your choice of needles, $0.75 each blister packed with no needle.
Sterile 18G x 1" needles, farm supply store = $5.30 for a box of 100
Sterile 21G x 0.75" needles, farm supply store = $2.14 for a blister pack of 10
Sterile 25G x 0.75" needles, farm supply store = $2.38 for a blister pack of 10
Sterile 18G x 2" or 1.25" Terumo catheter, Google shopping = $0.94 each - $0.72 each in boxes of 50. Chinese medical supply manufacturers above typically send an assortment with their marketing materials if you ask for a quote - best deal around!
Sterile 1cc syringe with needle = Do you know someone with diabetes? Very likely they've got one to spare. Otherwise, it'll cost you about fifty cents.
Sterile gloves, Google shopping = $25 for 20 pairs, multiple varieties.
Sterile prep kit, army surplus = $1.29, includes 4oz bottle of povidone or chlorhexadine scrub, 20+ squares of sterile gauze, and a little plastic bucket for dilution.
Carbon neutral bag = What? This must be where the price comes from. I can recycle some other product packaging for free, but thanks anyway...
Suture is harder to come by for the non-medical public, but multiple Chinese OEM suture suppliers offer samples for potential customers to review for FREE. Also, 5-0 suture is pretty thin - in the unlikely event that I need to break out suture, I feel 3-0 would probably be a better all-around choice. Although, if you're traveling to a foreign country and need superficial repairs, 5-0 would probably be adequate.
As far as the actual repair instruments go, driving suture through skin without instruments is tough business, even for the tiny needle on this suture. In an emergency, a leatherman tool will work, but isn't really ideal. The good news is that you can pick up a decent minor surgery kit from most army surplus stores for less than $30.
Wraps for the pack can be constructed from linen or even a high quality pillowcase in a pinch. A pressure canner with a gauge can be used to steam sterilize the double-wrapped pack, or you can ask a friendly tattoo artist to run it through a cycle in their autoclave for a nominal fee.
Just my two cents - I really think you can do better than this if you need and know how to use these products. Including this extremely limited bundle of "medical supplies" in your luggage for travel to a third world country seems unlikely to improve the quality of medicine you would receive there, and will take up extra space that could be put to better use.

Red Cross Toothache Medication Drops Review

Red Cross Toothache Medication Drops
Average Reviews:

This kit has a bottle of clove oil, a metal tweezers, and some cotton balls. It can be used for toothaches, but also for oral dry socket, or oral wounds. Dip the cotton ball into the Oil of Cloves and place it on the painful area. Hold it there as long as possible with as little saliva contamination as possible. The clove oil works to decrease pain and tenderness.
This is meant for temporary use until one can obtain professional help.
