Our son has amblyopia and must be patched 4 hours per day. The first patch we used was from a set of free samples that the doctor gave us. They had a beige colored cloth backing and the adhesive irritated his skin terribly. They were very difficult to remove as well. The next type we tried were NexCare. They had a paper backing, were much easier to remove, and did not irritate his skin. When I went to the store to get a new box, they only had the Curad brand. These are even better than the NexCare. They are so much easier to remove that my son asks for them specifically by brand name. The NexCare adhere a little bit better, but since he doesn't pick at the edges, it's not a problem. Anyone who has trouble with irritating adhesive can try a light layer of Pepto Bismol or Calamine (NOT Caladryl) lotion.
