Exercise Physiology: Energy, Nutrition, and Human Performance Review

Exercise Physiology: Energy, Nutrition, and Human Performance
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book is a great help in understanding what is happening within the body conerning sports training and nutrition. It is based on uncountable research studies and presented in a very readable form with ample graphics illustrations. The book helped me not only to understand more, but also to improve fitness and even loose some weight. It goes very far beyond compared to what one gets told in fitness centers. The main approach of the book is based on energy considerations. Understanding how the body handles energy makes it possible to describe the effects of exercising and performance much more deeply. I would recommend this book to every exerciser, who likes to improve physically and understand background matters. Basically, it's a textbook for sports students. But people outside, like myself, can greatly benefit from it, as well.

Practical Algebra: A Self-Teaching Guide, Second Edition Review

Practical Algebra: A Self-Teaching Guide, Second Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'd certainly award them to Mr. Selby and Dr. Slavin's book. I'm not finished with the text, but I'm learning so well that I KNOW I will have mastered the material. In fact, I just ordered the book which they recommend as a follow-up, "Geometry and Trigonometry for Calculus." They start out with baby steps -- literally simple addition and subtraction, and work up to fairly sophisticated algebraic expressions and problems. The student finds himself enjoying the material almost like it were a novel. Selby and Slavin give immediate answers for ALL the problems, so there's no frustration wondering if the problem is solved correctly. If the student misses a certain number of problems in a set, the authors recommend review of specific "frames" which cover the material. They treat the student with respect, making it clear that NO ONE (least of all someone who is motivated to study through their text) is a dummy. This is so much easier than trying to keep up with a math teacher who scribbles and then erases the material on a blackboard about as fast as he/she can write. I now know that self-paced learning is the way to go, at least for me. Many years ago, I failed calculus in college, and barely squeaked through college algebra and trigonometry. I fully intend to use this framework as a basis to repeat the course (even if via correspondence) and get this only blotch on an otherwise fine college career off my record. How sad that Mr. Selby has passed on, but how great it is that his books live still.

Medical Products Online Ultra Interferential/Russian Stimulator in one System Review

Medical Products Online Ultra Interferential/Russian Stimulator in one System
Average Reviews:

The listing for this device never disclosed that it drains an alkaline battery in 1/2 hour. I went through 4 batteries, and then 4 more brand new ones. No change, dead in one-half hour! I figured the unit was defective and wrote the manufacturer. The MPO rep said it was perfectly normal for the unit to go through an Alkaline battery that quickly. I asked for a full refund because the extremely low battery life was never disclosed in their listing. If I knew the expense that I would have to go through, I never would have purchased the unit. I told them I liked the unit very much, but I could not afford to keep buying the higher-priced 9V batteries. Their answer was no to a full refund. They want me to pay a hefty restocking fee. Unless you are going to use this unit with the restraints of non-portable AC power, keep away from it as a portable device unless you are wealthy or you are closely related to the "Bunny"!

Overall this is a great product, and I got just what I paid for - unfortunately, I should have checked out the products in person and found a ball that was a bit bigger - this one is not nearly tall enough for the purposes I bought it for.
This ball is good for exercise - not so good for sitting on!

The Biggest Loser 65cm Core Advantage Stability Ball (Royal Blue) Review

The Biggest Loser 65cm Core Advantage Stability Ball (Royal Blue)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So, i was expecting the 65cm ball to be about chair height. but its definitely not. it looks like a small ball not the medium size ball. its def. too small for me. i can not substitute it for a chair. so that just pretty much defeated the purpose of this ball. i guess i can still use it for exercise.
other then that, the package came ok, but there were spots on it like it had fell in some oil/wet stuff. there was a pump but it was covered in oily liquid which is gross. good thing was that they included 3 plugs for the hole, which is good in case you need more i guess.
i just wish it was bigger. ive had exercise balls in the past before and i always get medium, but this just seems too small to be medium.

to say this is the flimsiest item i've ever received is an understatement...i would return it, but it would cost more than the product is worth...maybe i'll use it as a planter, or something else - it won't stay together, and when i did assemble it, the ball would roll like crazy...really surprised amazon would sell something this bad,
but i'm sure they don't have control of manufacturing of their vendors...a waste of time and money.

New Omron Healthcare PC Version Pocket pedometer Review

New Omron Healthcare PC Version Pocket pedometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Omron products like the Pedometer HJ-7201TC with Health Management software are basically just toys. You use them for 2 months and the software bugs cause them to burn out, so you have toss them in the GARBAGE, and go to buy another. If you wanted to rely on them, you cannot, they quit. At $50+ per copy, that's an expensive toy. I know, I have tossed 4 of them.
They same is known for the blood pressure monitors which are 9-15% off in accuracy. If you send them back to Omron for calibration, they send you back a test report that says... "the unit is in range".

FitBALL Exercise Ball - 75cm Review

FitBALL Exercise Ball - 75cm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In preparing to buy a ball to sit on in lieu of an office chair, I researched:
- several brands of balls in person including those at home, those at my gym and the other balls in the office
- reactions from people who use balls as desk chairs
- online reviews
FitBALL emerged as my choice for:
- durability
- textured surface - not totally smooth
- best options for color, size and accessories (though I do use the ball by itself)
Results:
- I sit on the ball all day, every day at work
- My spine feels better! I also use it to perform easy core-strengthening movements while I work. I go home feeling more flexible and invigorated, and my chiropractor has also noticed the difference
- The ball is durable, comfortable, and stylish
- 3 others in the office have purchased one since I bought mine.

Tylenol Precise Pain Relieving Cream 2.5-Ounce (Pack of 2) Review

Tylenol Precise Pain Relieving Cream 2.5-Ounce (Pack of 2)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When this arrived at my door I knew immediately what was in the package as the menthol odor was so strong. (However, it is interesting to note that the smell dissapates a bit upon use and eventually thins to an almost baby-powderish minty odor that may be the biggest improvement this formula offers over its competitors.) I was initially excited to see what Tylenol would offer the world in the form of a pain relieving cream and was a bit disappointed to find that it's basically just Bengay without the camphor.
Tylenol Precise relieves minor aches and pains but for those with more serious pain issues such as back or joint injuries or even arthritis, this cream isn't likely to do much for you. In fact, it's really little different from the other major brands on the market. Some will prefer this cream over the others based on its consistency and odor, but in terms of effectiveness, Tylenol isn't offering anything new with this "Precise" formula. A 3 star evaluation is "OK" and it is the same evaluation I would give to Bengay and Icy Hot in terms of effectiveness.Because I feel it's extremely important to know what's in products intended for self-medication, I have provided the following information:
Active Ingredients are:
Menthol - 10%
Methyl salicylate - 30%Inactive ingredients are:
C12-15 alkyl benzoate
carbomer
cocoglycerides
distearyl ether
edetate disodium
ethylparaben
fragrance
glyceryl laurate
glyceryl stearate
methylparaben
myristyl alcohol
phenoxyethanol
propylparaben
sodium hydroxide
steareth-2

stearyl alcohol

Voldyne Volumetric Incentive Spirometer Review

Voldyne Volumetric Incentive Spirometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am recovering from pneumonia and my PCP recommended I get an Incentive Spirometer due to bring mostly bedridden post-surgery. I had no idea what kind or size to get and relied mostly on Amazon reviews. I was not disappointed in any way with this unit or with Medical Department Stores who shipped it within 12 hours and I got it with free shipping in only 3 business days.
An IS is a very simple plastic device. Not much to go wrong unless it cracks. I discovered, after receiving this 5000ml capacity model that my "normal" value should be about 3250ml. Most of the other units on Amazon top out at 2500ml. For the record, I am a 40 year old, 6'1" male. According to the charts I've seen, 2500ml is only enough to measure someone who is 5'5" or shorter.

The Pedlar Review

The Pedlar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This type of home exerciser was recommended by my physical therapist after I had arthroscopic surgery on both knees. I found the Pedlar is not only fine for my physical therapy knee exercises, but I also maintain my upper body and arm exercises by putting the Pedlar on the table and using my hands to rotate the pedals. I especially appreciate its size and convenience. I took it along on a driving trip vacation and used it in my hotel room. It took up very little space in the car (in fact it fit on top of my walker in the trunk) and fit into the closet in the hotel. Very convenient!

Average Reviews:

I have extreme arthritis in my knees. It is so bad that I had to have surgery to refracture the back of my kneecaps so I was no longer bone on bone, it gave me some relief but I was in constant pain. I started using Knee Relief made by the same company but that no longer is available. So my husband compared the two only to find that this is exactly the same but with a different name which may be why they no longer make Knee Relief. We bought it I took it and it WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No pain....no problem.. Believe me I can hardly walk without pain when I run out. Get this stuff it's great

J Fit Muscle Tension Release Body Rolling Ball Review

J Fit Muscle Tension Release Body Rolling Ball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this ball to use to apply more concentrated pressure than I can get with a foam roller. It came with no directions. That made it difficult to understand the purpose of the ball and the proper inflation. It seems to me that for this to work the pressure should be 50 - 100 psi. As I pumped the ball up - the ball kept getting bigger but not much harder. I am not sure what the ball is for, but it is not for deep tissue massage. I can get a *lot* more pressure from a foam roller - this ball was a disappointment.

Drive Medical Deluxe Folding Exercise Peddler with Electronic Display , Black Review

Drive Medical Deluxe Folding Exercise Peddler with Electronic Display , Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For a person with degenerative spine and arthritic knees and hips, who can stand for only limited periods of time, getting any excercise is a real challenge. When I saw this little machine, I thought I would give it a try. I've been very glad I did. It's small and light weight so I can move it if I need to. I use it with a kitchen chair so I have a stable seat instead of an arm chair or sofa. It counts the revolutions, the time spent and an approximatation of the calories burned. It has a tension control, but it loosens as I pedal along.
So far, I've used it 30 minutes a day, every day since I got it. I just choose a TV show and pedal the whole time. It makes no noise at all so it's not competing with the TV for sound. Admittedly, it's not a real bicycle in the real world workout, but for those of us who need an indoor substitute that's safe, I really recommend this. It's inexpensive and easy to use. You can also put it on a table and pedal with your arms if that's your challenge area. I've finally got my blood going again!!
