This is an extremely well-written book on golf equipment technology for the everyday golfer. Too many ill-informed golfers are constantly buying the "latest and greatest" golf equipment without knowing the real facts that will help them to improve their game.
Amateur golfers DO NOT have a swing like Tiger, Phil, or Vijay. So then, why do so many rush out to buy clubs that are too stiff, with too low of a loft, and driver shafts that are too long?
Here are just a few things that I learned from this book.
FACT: Most amateur golfers need a driver with AT LEAST 11 degrees of loft - and perhaps even 13 to 15 degrees. How do you know which loft will provide maximum distance for your swing? In this book are some very interesting charts that explain how to figure this out based on your swing speed (which you can have checked at a clubfitter or pro shop).
FACT: The average driver length on the PGA tour is 44.5". Most "off the rack" drivers are 45" or even 46". If the pro's can't control a driver this long, can you? There is some eye-opening data regarding shorter length drivers that can provide much better control with no loss of distance.
FACT: If you don't have a very high swing speed and a very consistent swing, you have no business with a three or four iron. This book discusses some very interesting alternatives to long irons - explaining the pros and cons of each type of club. In addition to the extremely useful information described above, there is also a neat compilation of stories that are a result of Tom Wishon's experiences working with Payne Stewart, Tom Kite, Harvey Penick, and various other PGA legends. I highly recommend this book to ALL golfers. Think about it this way, the pros have every club in their bag completely custom fit for their swing. With the information from this book, you can have the information to have your bag custom fit for YOUR game - just like them.

Exercise Physiology: Energy, Nutrition, and Human Performance Review

Exercise Physiology: Energy, Nutrition, and Human Performance

This book is a great help in understanding what is happening within the body conerning sports training and nutrition. It is based on uncountable research studies and presented in a very readable form with ample graphics illustrations. The book helped me not only to understand more, but also to improve fitness and even loose some weight. It goes very far beyond compared to what one gets told in fitness centers. The main approach of the book is based on energy considerations. Understanding how the body handles energy makes it possible to describe the effects of exercising and performance much more deeply. I would recommend this book to every exerciser, who likes to improve physically and understand background matters. Basically, it's a textbook for sports students. But people outside, like myself, can greatly benefit from it, as well.

Your Health, Your Choice: Your Complete Personal Guide to Wellness, Nutrition & Disease Prevention Review

Your Health, Your Choice: Your Complete Personal Guide to Wellness, Nutrition and Disease Prevention
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I read this book in the early 90's. Ted Morter, D.C. was way ahead of his time when he released this book to the public. Unfortunately, good health is a person's choice and most people will take very little time to make inquiry into the matter. Also, although this book is reasonable and substantiated from a physiological standpoint, one has to break through the idolatry that exists where medical cures are concerned (i.e. antacids as a cure for stomach ills, argggh!).
I loved Dr. Morters explanation of the digestive process and the pH of each phase from salivation to stomach to duodenum. It is necessary to understand all this to understand what lengths our bodies will go to in order to "save the whole man". The body operates in its wisdom under dire circumstances, but we have a choice and an opportunity to get out of survival mode into health. And the answer is so simple and the logic impeccable.
Cancer and other disease thrive in an acidic environment within the body. Each food we eat leaves a residue of acid or alkalai in our system. Our body will do crazy things to counteract the acid-ash residue left from the SAD diet we are used to (Std. American Diet). Our body will pull calcium from the bones even to neutralize the acid in the system. Drinking more homogenized milk only aggravates the acidity.
Dr. Morter runs under the legs of the medical researchers and unlocks the mysteries...a simple answer to a plaguing problem. Now, ten years after I read the book, researchers are catching up to this book.
It's your health and your choice. If you won't invest the effort to read a little book and see if it compels you to make some basic adjustments, then you deserve the inevitable: poor health and misery---perhaps early exit. This book is great and it changed my life. Too bad it's out of print. It's a CLASSIC! I think that you could find it as a used book even. I still have my copy and don't lend it to anyone. Get it at the library if you must. Sincerely, "paris_match@hotmail.com"

Forever Young: The Science of Nutrigenomics for Glowing, Wrinkle-Free Skin and Radiant Health at Every Age Review

Forever Young: The Science of Nutrigenomics for Glowing, Wrinkle-Free Skin and Radiant Health at Every Age
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, I really like this book. It's full of excellent information that, when you think about it, just makes sense. I am glad I got the book and would recommend it to anyone (I am waiting for my second copy to give away as I write this).
That said, as a 37 year old man looking to lose about 45 pounds, the book has also been a little frustrating. First, I realize that women are the target market here, but it would be nice to have a few pages directed at the guys out there. Second, and more importantly, I really needed to see a simple summary and a clear regimen stated somewhere. Every chapter is full of excellent information, but I feel as if I have to pick and choose and piece it together myself in order to make it (hopefully) work for me.
I was glad to see there was a relatively clear guide to making the Meal Replacement Drink, but even then, it could have been clearer. After spending some time describing the benefits of egg white albumin, the recipe says, "I suggest 6 ounces of the protein source in liquid form or as labeled if it is in powdered form." Powdered form? I assume he recommended 6 ounces of egg whites as the liquid source, but now I have to figure out what "powdered form" means and if I was correct about the egg whites. I am sure some research will help me here, but it would have been nice to just be told plain and simple. Add to that, the six ounce recommendation is for a "women approximately five feet, four inches tall with moderate activity..." What about a guy about 5'11" with less than moderate activity? In the same recipe, he says to mix 1 teaspoon of non-Dutch cocoa with stevia and *a little water*, what is "a little water?" Again, I realize this might be a "to taste" thing, but I would have liked a place to start.
There is a great section talking about glutathione and the topical solution that solves the problem of adequate transport. I am very excited to try this, but I can't figure out where it is. I am now thinking that it is not out yet. I may be mistaken though. I'm still trying to figure it out. I watched the PBS special where he talked a lot about the wonder of this topical and I assumed it was available. Just not sure yet.
The recipes look very good - and that is coming from someone with terrible sensory issues and food aversions. There are a few tweaks I will have to make, but I have also been encouraged to "just eat it" with most of the ingredients. While I am not into Yoga, the section is very well done and about as engaging as it could be. The poses, etc. are all explained well and I will glad to see a few "programs" listed, at least two of which I am looking forward to trying.
Ultimately, I think I will have to call one of their counselors and see if they can help me. I am weak and tired and anxious to try this. The claims to not only help you lose weight but improve mood and overall health are very motivating for me. That said, I do not want to end up wondering if I am doing it right. That is terribly frustrating. Sometimes I felt as if the author was assuming I knew something already.
I would have given the book 5-stars had it, 1) provided at least a little guidance for a man reading this, 2) provided a "cheat sheet" of sorts plainly stating proper summarized regimens for both the diet and the supplement usage. I think that most of the information I need is in there, somewhere. I just wish I didn't have to work so hard to bring it all together.
One last thing: while Dr. Perricone does offer up his own products in here, I never felt as if he was forcing me to get his stuff. He also suggests a variety of other venders (though he may have relationships with them too, I don't know), and many of the supplements, etc. he recommends can be purchased just about anywhere. I really wish his weight management supplement pack was not $200 a month. : ( Budgeting it one thing, not having the money to budget after buying all the organic food, supplements, and all that is another. Not saying it is not worth it, just saying I may never be able to know. ; )
All that said, GET THE BOOK! I really am enjoying it. I received it yesterday and am already going through it a second time.

Planning Your Career In Alternative Medicine: A Guide to Degree and Certificate Programs in Alternative Healthcare Review

Planning Your Career In Alternative Medicine: A Guide to Degree and Certificate Programs in Alternative Healthcare
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This comprehensive directory is an excellent source for those looking to enter the field of alternative or complementary medicine. In a market with such tremendous growth and clutter, there is a viable need for a resource such as this to sort through what is available nationally. The book includes: a reader-friendly section defining all terms and fields associated with the industry, how to choose a program, what programs are available sorted by location, the top schools and programs, accrediation information, professional organizations, and self-study resources. The only piece missing was an updated version. Hence, that is on its way to being published in September of 2000. After months of research, this is by far the best directory I have encountered.

Boiron HomeoTravel Kit Review

Boiron HomeoTravel Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We've been using homeopathic remedies since my kids were babies with terrific results. Now my oldest is off to college and I've been looking for a remedy kit to send along, especially for during the cold and flu season.
After researching what was available I choose this one, as I've used Boiron remedies for years and it seemed to include a good selection of what you'd need for traveling or dorm life!
It's about the size of a thick trade paperback, very well padded with a nice zipper and includes twenty 30c remedies. Many of the basic ones you'd need for colds, flu's, stomachaches or injuries. It even has a little booklet with the remedies listed and what each are for.
The price is very reasonable too, just the remedies alone cost more then this kit. Great to carry when you travel or to add to that care package for your college student.

Eleotin Mb (Metabolism) Tea Capsules Review

Eleotin Mb (Metabolism) Tea Capsules
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I think this product is something you have to use long term to determine its effects. I don't have diabetes and that's what this product is supposed to help. I do have diabetes in my family and I took this product to see if I would feel any difference; I have sugar cravings and I was hoping this would waylay that. I can say I don't "crave" sugar anymore. But that may be a placebo effect as well. I think if you have diabetes, this product is supposed to be the "cure" and I would encourage people to try it. It certainly wouldn't hurt.

I purchased this product (from venapro directly) under a "30 day money back guarantee". After many years of suffering I tried it. After 30 days it had no results. I tried to get my money back and they don't do that, they won't take any open packs or refund money. Apparently they really don't have a 30 day warranty after all.

Carditone has been working great for me for many years. No other med for high blood pressure ever worked for me, including a diuretic, an ACE inhibitor, a beta blocker and two different calcium channel blockers, and most of those had unpleasant side effects. I started out taking one Carditone per day, and after a few years had to increase to two per day, one in the morning and one in the evening. I've never had any side effects from Carditone.

Garden of Life Super Seed Review

Garden of Life Super Seed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of the best fiber supplements on the market. Not only does it include both soluble and insoluble fiber, it also includes beneficial probiotic bacteria and on top of that tastes great. Each scoop of Super Seed contains 7g of fiber from whole foods like flax seed, chia seed and legumes. On top of that, since it's a whole food fiber, it also adds nutrition to whatever you mix it with in the form of protein, vitamins, minerals and beneficial fats from the flax seeds(omega 3).
The best part about this is that it doesn't contain Psyllium which is the 'in' fiber these days but a lot of people find that it's too harsh on the stomach and can cause constipation easily if not taken with a lot of fluids. Super Seed is much gentler than your average fiber supplement and tastes great with anything. My favorite way to use it is to add half a scoop to Lifeway's plain kefir. It tastes great and is very healthy for me too. As with any fiber supplement, make sure to drink 6-10 glasses of water a day.

Pin-X Chewable Tablets - 12 Each
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought these tablets online when I couldn't find them at three local pharmacies. I found the liquid Pin-X at one pharmacy. It was supposed to taste like carmel, but the carmel flavor could not mask the strong, bitter medicine taste. The Pin-X chewable tablets have slightly chalky orange flavor (think TUMs). Two or three of the tablets were broken up in shipmnent, but that wasn't really a problem. They did the job they were supposed to do and no one in our family minded the taste.
