Full Speed Ahead: Surviving to Thriving as an Online Doctoral Student (Volume 1) Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I found this book to be a wonderful tool for learning the ins and outs of obtaining a college degree, specifically a doctorate, through an online school. With the increase in online education nationally this gives a would-be student hands on information that they can utilize in making a decision as to whether they want to learn online or by traditional means of attending a college campus. This is an excellent resource for adult learners who has plans to return to college and needs help in deciding whether they want to attend classes on campus or online. It gave great insight into the experiences of six doctoral candidates who obtained their doctorate online at one of the nations premiere online universities. I would recommend this book to anyone who plans to attend or return to college. With all of the online offerings today, why would anyone want to drive to a university or college and spend their day going from class to class and building to building when they can accomplish the same learning by sitting in the comfort of your own home and using your computer. Take those hours away from Facebook and return to college. It's a wonderful opportunity for everyone! This is a must buy for any high school graduate, college student, or adult learner planning to return to college.

What would happen if you had a single source, written by doctors who took the journey to obtain a doctoral degree online while still working? Full Speed Ahead is the book for you. Starting with the history of education and whether or not to consider traditional versus non-traditional learning, e.g. online doctoral education, you are taken on a wonderful excursion. You voyage through the good, the bad and the ugly of learning teams, while deciding if there is time for you, the learner, to maintain a career, raise a family, and find the key ingredients as you maneuver through the coursework and residencies. What make this so readable are the personal stories the six writers sprinkle throughout the book as you pick your doctoral committee, prepare your dissertation, get through the Review Boards, design your study, conduct your research, and finally defend your dissertation. This is the one place to go for a full authority on deciding if an online doctorate is for you. Full Speed Ahead should be required reading during the admission process for any student in pursuit of a doctorate.
