Flents Quiet Please (Case of 6) Review

Flents Quiet Please (Case of 6)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My husband snores... LOUDLY! The choice was to sleep in separate bedrooms, or try some ear plugs. I must have tried every kind on the market; wax, putty, rubber... They were all pretty uncomfortable and/or messy to handle. Then I tried Flents foam plugs, and they work like a dream. They took some getting used to (for awhile I noticed that I was removing them in my sleep), but now they stay in all night. They are super easy to insert. Just roll them between your fingers until they are thin and tuck them in! The foam expands inside the ear for a snug fit that muffles my husband's snoring. Of course, they don't make you deaf, which is nice, but they drown out the annoying sounds so I can fall asleep and stay asleep. They're also great for avoiding rude awakenings caused by ringing phones, false alarms of home security systems, and by the clinking sounds of my dogs' collar tags when they decide to scratch in the middle of the night. One pair of foam plugs can be re-used three or four times. Just store them in an air tight container when not in use until it's time for a new pair.

BioEars Soft Silicone Earplugs 3 ea Review

My wife and I bought these to help her sleep through my snoring. The level of sound blocking for these plugs is only 20db (30 is about the max for good ear plugs), which wasn't enough to help my wife sleep. I haven't tried these in water, but for sound blocking there are much better ear plugs for cheaper.

EarPlanes Earplugs, Flight Ear Protection Review

EarPlanes Earplugs, Flight Ear Protection
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A deviated septum means that one of my ears was affected so badly on descent that I literally lost my hearing in that ear for one-two days after each landing. Various medications and even prescription drugs did little to help. Several years ago, I found out about EarPlanes, and they have made all the difference. No more popping, no more severe pain, no more clogged head and deafness.
I give these 4 stars instead of 5, because I do have some issues with them. None of these issues would make me stop using them, but I do want to point them out:
1) They are a bit difficult to put in properly. You have to follow the instructions exactly, pulling up on your earlobe with your opposite hand (not always easy to do, especially if you're sitting in the middle seat) and really "screwing" them in. I use them both for ascending and descending. One can remove them after the plane has reached maximum altitude, and I usually do, unless it's a very short flight. I found that when I replace them for the descent, they are quite a bit harder to put back in, no longer being "brand new".
2) If you put them in really properly, they basically become ear "plugs" in addition to eardrum protectors. This means that it is hard to hear. That's great if there are crying babies aboard. It's not so great if you want to have a conversation. It's hard to hear your seatmates or the flight crew, and it's impossible to judge how loudly you are speaking; for example, when the stewardess asks me what I'd like as a snack, I have to "shout" - that's what it seems like to me - in order to be heard. It's also, obviously, hard to use headphones (only the hollowed-out kind will fit over the earplanes, which are so long that they stick out of your ears; they have to be long, so that you can grip them in order to remove them. Also, you'd have to turn the volume way up, which might not be appreciated by those near you, and which is probably not the best idea in any case). Also, you are constantly aware that you have them in your ears, as they must be inserted fully in order to work properly, and the `screw' part can become a bit annoying.
For all of the reasons I have listed in number 2, I usually do remove them once the plane reaches maximum altitude, and put them back in (despite the issues in number 1), which means putting them in as soon as the plane begins to descend, which can be as much as an hour before landing time.
Note: if you have only a mild problem with ear pressure, then you might be able to get away with using them only for the descent. My problem is severe, so I've never taken the chance.
In addition to the earplanes, I take a Sudafed (non-drowsy) an hour before flying, and approximately every four hours during the flight, trying to time it so that I take the last one about an hour before landing.

Hearos Rock 'n Roll Ear Filters Review

Hearos Rock 'n Roll Ear Filters
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These ear plugs are not designed to zero out the sound of jackhammers and jet engines. They are designed to reduce the ear-splitting high and loud notes at a concert or disco to a level where they will not damage your ear drums.
And they do that perfectly. I can dance next to the speakers all night long and then when I leave the club I can pull out the earplugs and hear perfectly well while my friends need a day to recover their hearing.
Yeah, the plastic container that they provide with the earplugs is pretty crappy, but you don't have to use it. That's not a good reason to avoid this product.

Hearos Ear Plugs, Xtreme Protection Series 7 pr Review

I lived in the East Village in Manhattan, with a bedroom that faced onto a busy street and a flatmate who loved watching TV at extraordinary volumes late into the night. I tried many different earplugs, and these were the ones that let me sleep through the night. They're fantastic at blocking sound, they don't fall out like some smaller-profile plugs, and they don't hurt the ear canal the way some large plugs can. Highly recommended. The larger pack is nice because, like all disposable earplugs, these do get less effective (and somewhat gross) after a couple of nights' use.

I have tried foam ear plugs of various types, wax, Doc's Pro-plugs (vented) and none of them work as well as these little purple things. One big advantage is that if it leaks, or if you need to take them out after you have been in the water, you can put them right back in, unlike the wax or foam plugs.

Mack's Ear Seals Earplugs 1 pr Review

Mack's Ear Seals Earplugs 1 pr
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought a pair of Mack's Ear Seals a few years ago at a local drug store, and they are some of the best reusable earplugs you can buy -- certainly the best I've ever used. They have a neon yellow rubber base topped with four graded silicone flanges. From tip to end, they're about one inch long.
The NRR (noise reduction rating) of these earplugs is 27 decibels, and man, do they work well. I wear them primarily at concerts and find that they allow me to hear the band clearly, but they reduce the noise level to a comfortable volume.
I also wear these earplugs while traveling (a godsend in planes, trains, and youth hostels), and sometimes while sleeping at home to block out the really loud chirping birds that have nested in the tree outside our bedroom window. These earplugs cancel out small sounds entirely.
The grippy silicone flanges keep these earplugs in place. The fit is pretty comfortable, much more so than I find memory foam earplugs to be, and I have average-sized ear canals. (For those with smaller ear canals, I would recommend Etymotic's Baby Blues Earplugs.) Wearing Mack's Ear Seals while sleeping works fine for me because I tend to sleep on my back; however, those who sleep on their sides or stomachs may not find these earplugs comfortable against a pillow because the yellow ends stick out past the ear.
Mack's Ear Seals are made of silicone and rubber, so they are perfect for those with latex allergies and are waterproof. They come in a clear rectangular snap case, which is handy for traveling. In addition to the plugs, you also get a thin detachable cord. I have personally never used the cord, but I see how it could be useful for sporting events, etc. Recommended!

Mack's SafeSound Slim Fit Soft Foam Earplugs,Small 10 pr Review

Mack's SafeSound Slim Fit Soft Foam Earplugs,Small 10 pr
Average Reviews:

Nothing else will do! I sleep alone (actually, with a purring cat) and run a white-noise generating air purifier at night, but I've got a disturbed sleep pattern, so when it's windy or hailing, when my downstairs neighbor runs her thrumming ceiling fan, or my upstairs neighbor has his occasional party on a Friday night, or the cat holds an early morning caterwauling session, these are miraculous.
Of course I find it particularly hard to sleep in new places even when it's relatively quiet, so these are a travel lifesaver. I suspect that part of the benefit is the familiarity of the sensation (acupressure, anyone?); I've needed them when camping in a completely noiseless desert wilderness because I'm simply not used to the silence, and then there are the early risers clanging around making coffee. Loud noises do come through, but only very quietly--a slammed door, a loud alarm clock, a shout, that kind of thing--but it blocked out my air conditioner condenser while I was getting used to it.
Of course there are a few downsides. You won't hear an alarm clock unless it's right next to you or turned up very loud. I use a dawn simulator, which typically works just fine because it wakes me up with light, not sound. Also, I have to remember to tell people I'm staying or camping with that I'm using earplugs; otherwise, gentle efforts to wake me up will fail.
I usually get 2-3 uses out of a pair, which means a 30 pair box lasts 4 or so months. After a few nights the pores in the silicone seem to get blocked and it's hard to get them to stay in my ear. However, I'm a very ear-waxy sort of person, so your mileage may vary.
