(More customer reviews)Over the years, I've tried a lot of different over the counter medicine products (and products in general) that don't work very well. But Afrin, I'm happy to say, is an exception. It does exactly what it's supposed to do, every time.
Sometimes during the winter I get so congested that I can't breathe at all through my nose. This means that I can't get to sleep, either, so having a product that allows me to breathe isn't just a nice convenience: it greatly enhances the quality of my life. When you're already sick, the last thing you need is to not get good sleep!
But often, with just one squirt of Afrin in each nostril, I can breathe much more easily in a matter of minutes. Even when I'm most congested, I've never used this product and not had it make me be able to breathe much more clearly so that I could get to sleep. It lasts a long time, too - long enough to get me through the night.
I highly recommend it if you're having trouble with nasal congestion.

(More customer reviews)My husband bought me Nose Better a few years back, because he couldn't find what I'd sent him for. What luck! I've used nothing since! It works great, especially for getting you through the night with a stuffy nose. I used it on my 5-year-old granddaughter when she couldn't breathe due to a stuffy nose, and she was then able to sleep peacefully. Her mom now carries it in her purse all the time. It's great for kids. It may "burn" a bit when you first use it, but if you apply more right away it takes that feeling away, and after a few times, it doesn't do that anymore. Also, it's not petroleum based, so you can actually use it inside your nostrils, too.

Afrin really does do the trick of relieving nasal congestion. If you're having difficulty clearing your nose because of allergies, hay fever or a bad cold, this product will clear your nose in no time. In addition, it does not make you drowsy.
However, there is a plethora of precautions about this drug--including, "ask a doctor before use if you have heart disease; high blood pressure; thyroid disease; diabetes; trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland. When using this product do not use more than directed; do not use for more than 3 days." Pregnant moms and nursing moms should also consult a doctor before using Afrin.
If that wasn't enough to make you think twice about this product, then maybe my personal story will make you think. There's a very dirty secret about Afrin--it can easily become an addictive substance. If used too frequently, your nasal passages gradually become more and more clogged simply because they haven't received enough Afrin to keep them clear. Obviously, you can--and I did--wind up in a nasty habit of buying the product just to keep your nose clear. I have heard stories from doctors stating that they have been approached by patients claiming to have been addicted to Afrin for ten years at a time. You may then need another prescription nasal spray to get your nose functioning properly again.
Naturally, with the precautions Afrin tells everyone about--and the horror stories that they don't openly address--I cannot give this product a positive review. I vividly remember seeing doctors cringe noticeably when I told them about my former Afrin addiction.
2 stars for this product--but only if you use Afrin for less than three days.
I would strongly encourage you to seek another nasal spray.
