Aleve Liquid Gels-Pain Reliever Formula, 160 Liquid Gels Review

Aleve Liquid Gels-Pain Reliever Formula, 160 Liquid Gels
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Aleve is the exact same medication as its generic counterpart, Naproxen Sodium. Aleve is a non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drug (NSAID). This means it is NOT a steroid, such as cortisone or hydrocortisone, and it relieves inflammation, which is a central component of pain of any kind, be it joint pain, headache, migraine, etc.
This liquid formulation of Aleve is designed to dissolve and be absorbed more quickly than the tablet or caplet form. In general, and for most people, the liquid form is easier to digest with less potential for stomach upset.
As a class of drugs, NSAIDs are the most frequently prescribed analgesics for management of arthritic and musculoskeletal pain of mild to moderate intensity. All NSAIDs possess analgesic (pain relieving), antipyretic (anti-fever), and anti-inflammatory effects (reduces inflammation and swelling). Naproxen Sodium was first offered as a prescription drug in 1982, but had such a strong safety profile that it was listed as an over-the-counter medication in 1994 as Aleve.
Aleve is absorbed rapidly following oral administration. It achieves a peak blood concentration within 15 minutes to 2 hours. The main advantage to Naproxen Sodium is its long half-life (14 hours), which means how long its effect lasts in the body before it is excreted/metabolized. With the long half-life, Aleve only needs to be taken twice a day, or at most, three times a day. The tablets or capsules come in 220 mg dose sizes, and the maximum daily dose is 1250 mg per day. The instructions state to take one tablet twice a day (440 mg total dose). However, for pain that does not respond to one tablet, one could take two tablets twice a day for pain and still be well under the maximum recommended daily dose. Before taking more than the recommended dose, always consult with your MD. It is not recommended that one take Naproxen Sodium longer than 10 days.
In studies comparing (Aleve) Naproxen Sodium to aspirin, Naproxen Sodium was found to be 20 times stronger. It is about equally potent as 400-600 mg of Ibuprofen. Many of my patients have found it better than Ibuprofen, as it does not have to be dosed as frequently. Some beleive it is a bit more effective than Ibuprofen.
With all drugs there are side-effects, and Aleve has several significant effects that the buyer will need to consider. First, like all NSAIDS, Aleve can cause stomach bleeding, ulcers, and even sudden stomach perforation. If you have stomach ulcers or are prone to GI bleeding, it is best to consult your MD before beginning Aleve. Aleve can also increase bleeding tendencies, as it prevents platelets from clotting together. People with heart conditions who use Aleve can experience swelling of the arms, legs, and feet. Report any adverse side-effects to your MD immediately and discontinue Aleve.
In my experience with this medication and in prescribing it for my patients, I recommend they take it with a small amount of food to lessen the direct contact with the stomach lining.
Please note that Aleve is about twice as expensive as the generic Naproxen Sodium Naproxen Sodium 220 mg - 400 Caplets Compare to the active ingredient in Aleve® Tablets. Generic and Aleve are the exact same drug, so I leave it up to you to purchase the brand you prefer.

Aleve All Day Strong Pain Reliever, Fever Reducer, 100 Caplets Review

Aleve All Day Strong Pain Reliever, Fever Reducer, 100 Caplets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Alleve is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve mild to moderate pain (analgesic action). It has a variety of uses: arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout, headache, menstrual pain, and migraines. It also reduces fever and inflammation. The analgesic effect is apparent in 1 hour after taking a dose. The anti-inflammatory effect is cummulative and is apparent after taking the medication on a daily basis for a week or more.
The most common side effect of any NSAID drug is stomach upset. It will cause minor stomach bleeding with every dose you take, and can cause severe bleeding and pain in rare instances. One should not take Alleve day after day without being monitored by a MD. It can cause liver changes and can also harm the kidneys if used chronically.
The major advantage to using Alleve is that its action is so long-lasting compared to other analgesics, such as Ibuprofen, Tylenol, and aspirin. One dose of Alleve can last as long as 6-8 hours.
The usual dose is 250-375 mg in the morning and the evening.
When this was a prescription medication, it was known as Naprosyn. It was mostly prescribed for arthritis pain.
Hope this helps.

Sudafed PE Multi-Symptom Severe Cold, Coated Caplets 24 ea Review

Sudafed PE Multi-Symptom Severe Cold, Coated Caplets 24 ea
Average Reviews:

The only cold medicine that really works for me is Sudafed Severe Cold. Much to my surprise, the last time I tried to buy it, it no longer was carried--anywhere. I checked the drug store, the grocery store, and then went online, figuring it'd be at Walmart or Target or somewhere. No luck. But I did find it on Amazon. It was delivered promptly, exactly as advertised, too late for this cold but ready for the next. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was the price--wow. But we pay what we must when we must, don't we?

Vicks Nyquil Sinus, Nighttime Relief, LiquiCaps 20 ea Review

When I get a cold, it's always a head cold with sinus pressure. When that happens, I make sure I'm stocked up on these pills. They clear up my symptoms and knock me out so I can actually sleep through the night. So far, they are the only ones that I've found that work on my head colds. Recently my friend was visiting and came down with a nasty head cold. I gave her two pills and she was amazed at how well they worked. Highly recommended for those nasty sinus pressure head colds.

Kirkland Suphedrine Pe Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 10mg Tablets 144-Count (Pack of 3) Review

Kirkland Suphedrine Pe Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 10mg Tablets 144-Count (Pack of 3)
Average Reviews:

Everyone in our family has seasonal allergies, with two of us having year-round allergies. We used to take a prescription decongestant/antihistamine combo, but the medicine's mfg changed companies, and we were no longer able to afford it. I had to search for something that would do almost as good a job that we could afford.
I used to buy this type medicine at KMart in a bottle of 150 tablets, but for some reason, KMart has pretty much done away with them.
I was back to searching for them again. When I bought this, I'd never heard of Kirkland products. Since then, I've learned that it is a brand sold at Costco, and we've never had one of those near us.
I was very pleased with the purchase. They work just as well as KMart's brands at a similar cost. The product was shipped quickly and arrived in great condition. The pills are all blister-packaged as individual pills, which really annoyed me at first (the bottle was all "pre-popped", so to speak!). However, it has turned out to be a good thing. These can easily be dropped into a purse or backpack without falling out of a bottle, so no contamination. I also "popped" one full box into the other store's bottle for easier use at home.
I have no problems at all with this, and love that I can buy it online. With limited stores in our area, and myself with limited mobility, this definitely fills a need. Love it!

Aleve All Day Strong Pain Relief (250 Caplets) Review

Aleve All Day Strong Pain Relief (250 Caplets)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
IN A NUTSHELL: ALEVE IS A COMMON ANTI-INFLAMMATORY NOW AVAILABLE OVER-THE-COUNTER
WHAT IS ALEVE AKA: NAPROXEN SODIUM
'Aleve' for all intents and purposes is the 'Naprosyn' that we all use to get prescriptions for to help with a plethora of painful ailments. Specifically speaking, 'Bayer HealthCare LLC, makes 'Aleve' and they were the original patent holder for Naprosyn when it was first released as a prescription drug more than a generation ago.
TO BETTER EXPLAIN WE'LL NEED TO USE SOME MEDICAL LINGO:
'ALEVE', which in this form is a 220 mg. caplet of 'NAPROXEN SODIUM', is a 'Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory' drug (also referred to as a NSAID). NSAIDs, including Naproxen Sodium are used to relieve some symptoms caused by arthritis (rheumatism), such as inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain. However, bear in mind that this medicine will not cure arthritis and will help you only as long as you continue to take it.
OKAY -- SO WHAT'S THIS STUFF GOOD FOR?
Naproxen sodium is useful in the temporary relief of pain and to treat such painful conditions as:
-* gout attacks;
-* bursitis;
-* tendinitis;
-* sprains, strains, or other injuries; or
-* menstrual cramps.
Like 'Ibuprofen', Naproxen Sodium is also a potent fever reducer. In fact, if your stomach can tolerate NSAIDs, these two are good to rotate for long term use. The Naproxen tends to last several hours longer and you generally need a smaller dose compared to Ibuprofen for the same ailments. Like Ibuprofen, Naproxen is a potent headache reliever as well, especially for sinus headaches taken together with something like benadryl for nasal congestion.
WHY THE 'ALEVE BRAND' AS OPPOSED TO A GENERIC?
Many healthcare professionals will say that generics and name brands are roughly equivalent. Usually, but not always, this is true. Having taken Naprosyn on and off since 1981, I feel rather sure that the 'Aleve brand' is more potent and at the same time less irritating to my stomach than the generic brands I have tried over the years. Naturally, only the 'enteric coated' product can offer reasonable assurrance that you won't experience gastric side-effects with any NSAID.
YOU CAN MINIMIZE GASTRIC SIDE-EFFECTS:
Nevertheless, I have found that if you avoid lying down for at least 15 minutes after taking Naproxen, and avoid taking doses larger than those recommended by your healthcare provider, the likelihood of side-effects are reduced. Steering clear of coffee, when taking any NSAID might also be advised, especially if you suffer from G.E.R.D..
BOTTOM LINE: I PREFER ALEVE OVER THE GENERICS - REASONS ABOVE
As anti-inflammatories go, Naproxen Sodium [Naprosyn] is one of the more potent, long lasting, and versatile of the NSAIDs. At the same time it causes less gastric-distress than aspirin. Since it has become available over-the-counter, it is now one of the least expensive and most available anti-inflamatories, even in the name brand form offered here ['Aleve'].
WHY 4-STARS FOR 'ALEVE'?
I have given this product 4-stars simply because there is a risk of severe gastric irritation to a relatively large portion of the population. Bear in mind also, that like most NSAIDs, 'Naproxen Sodium' will thin your blood and may interact with certain blood thinning or blood clotting medications. For some, the blood thinning effect may reduce the risk of heart attack, but this is something to discuss with a qualified physician rather than treat yourself.
