ONE of the few law school scholarship books, however it is moderately helpful. Most of the scholarships did not apply for me, or at least, they were so odd and weird that the criteria would be too much of a stretch for me. I'm a minority (URM) 1L student and yet this is still the case. It may be worth the price I paid, I am still waiting to see if I get anything back for my efforts...

Are your working on a degree in law? Congratulations. You have made a wise decision. Not only will you find a legal career personally and intellectually challenging, you will also find it financially rewarding. In fact, in the latest Occupational Employment Statisics Survey, law was listed as one of the twelve highest paying professions in the United States. According to a joint study released recently by the Equal Justice Works, the National Association for Law Placement, and the Partnership for Public Service, the median starting salary at private law groups now tops $90,000.Getting a law degree is expensive. It can cost $100,000 or more. That's more than most students can afford to pay on their own. As a result, more than 94% reported borrowing at least some money last year to attend law school, where annual tuition averages more than $23,000. But borrowing is not the only way to pay for a law degree. There are hundreds of fellowships, grants, awards, and other types of funding opportunities, representing millions of dollars, also available.Unfortunately, many law students are unaware of these funding opportunities. Don't be one of them. HOW TO PAY FOR YOUR LAW DEGREE makes it easy to find the money you need. Described here are more than 600 fellowships, internships, loans and forgivable loans, writing and other competitions, grants, and Bar Exam stipends available specifically to law students to support their study, training, research, and creative activities. All areas of law are covered, from administrative law to trusts and estates, and nearly 50 specialties in between.Entries in the directory are grouped by type of funding (e.g., fellowships, internships) and detailed descriptions are provided for each. Every piece of information is here that you'll need to decide if a program is right for you. In seconds, you can read about the purpose, eligibility, monetary award, duration, special features, limitations, number awarded, and deadline date for any program that interests you. In addition, complete contact information is included: addresses, telephone numbers, e-mails, and web sites. The directory has been designed so you can quickly identify available funding not only by type but--by using the extensive indexes--also by program title, sponsoring organization, residency requirements, where the money can be spent, legal specialty, and deadline date. Not only does HOW TO PAY FOR YOUR LAW DEGREE provide the most comprehensive coverage of funding available to law students, but it also offers the most informative program descriptions, averaging more than twice the detail given in any other source--in print or online. There's no other directory like this one!

In today's economy this is the book we have been waiting on! It is straight forward and loaded with current and relevant information. As I read the book and looked back over my career, I realize that Mr. Happe is right on with his points regarding major business men and women successes that didn't have a college degree.
While the discussion regarding "degree or no degree" makes for a interesting debate, this book equips people now that have been dumped by our economy back into the work place, on their efforts to transition their careers. This book should be one that everyone looking at the economy and career change should buy simply as a current guideline for their next move.
Overall it is a simple read with quality information, get a copy as it will help guide us all through these difficult times!!

College is the not right choice for everyone. It wasn't for Bill Gates, who dropped out of college with Paul Allen to launch Microsoft. It wasn't for Karl Rove, who was the Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush. College wasn't the right path for Rush Limbaugh, Tyra Banks, or Simon Cowell. It wasn't the right place for Richard Branson, Henry Ford, or Ray Crock (the founder of McDonalds), together with 572 people listed in Launching Points who changed the world with no college degree. College may not be the right place... for you.Launching Points profiles fifty careers that don't require a four year college degree. It's packed with insights on job descriptions, salary data and tips on jump starting each career path. It's not exhaustive, but intentionally short so that you can read it quickly, get some ideas, and start planning the direction YOU want to go in. It was written for the high school student in search of ideas on alternatives to college (and college debt). It was written for the nearly 50% of enrolled college freshman nationwide that drop out before they ever earn a diploma. It was written for the experienced job seeker in need of some encouragement and a new perspective on the job market. It was written for you. Use it to help discover your Launching Points.

A Heavenly College Education On an Earthly Budget - Double Your Financial Aid - Double Your Degree's Value Review

This is a great book for students on how to prepare for college, choose a college, and acquire financial aid/Scholarships--But I was disappointed in Section 4: The Earthly Budget. This section, on how to finance a college education was not as comprehensive as the rest of the sections. I also did not like the fact the author went on about how he disagreed with The Theory of Evolution "ad nausium" throughout the book.
Section 4 was only 32 pages out of 331. However, he did list lots of books, web site links, and articles to help readers get more information and advice.
Overall, I think this book is very useful for parents as well as students in helping them to plan for college. The author has a very entertaining and witty style of writing which makes this book a very fun read.
