Mederma for Kids - 20 gm Review

(More customer reviews)The Mederma itself seems to be helping - only time and much diligence will tell - but what I am rating here is the Kid's version. I recommend buying the regular Mederma instead. The Mederma for Kid's is supposed to go on purple & dry clear, but it hasn't yet dried clear for me. Now I have been liberally applying Mederma to my son's facial scar, massaging & rubbing in for a few seconds (using a circular motion), then wiping the excess off around the wound only... leaving some excess directly over the wound. The Mederma stays on & even where I have wiped off the excess the purple tint remains. I have since bought the regular clear Mederma & the tube is much neater & it doesn't have much of a smell at all (unlike the Mederma for Kids). The Mederma for Kid's adds 2 dyes (violet & red) which are unnecessary for scar improvement and possibly even harmful. When I addressed this and another question to Merz (the makers of Mederma) in an email, they answered the one question, but skirted my concern over the dyes. My other question? I wanted to know if Mederma helped with indented scars, because that's what my son is left with after having stitches. Apparently in the world of Plastic Surgery the belief is that indented (hypotrophic) scars are more esthetically pleasing then raised (hypertrophic) scars. I would actually prefer a raised scar over an elongated pot-mark. There is much more potential for scar revision on raised scars. Depressed or pitted scars are usually filled, but collagen injections are a waste of time... they don't last, so what's the point? So will Mederma help with indented scars? Merz says no. But I am hopeful none-the-less because I have seen some improvement. Scientifically Mederma improves "dermal collagen organization" according to an unbiased experiment with Mederma. What that means, I'm not sure. But get this... Merz makes another scar cream that is not available in the US. It's called Contractubex. It has the onion extract, but has an additional ingredient: heparin. According to the Merz website (www.merz.com) this ingredient works together with the onion extract. They "enhance and complement each other". Too bad it's not sold here. In the meantime, I will continue with the Mederma & maybe write another review after 8 weeks.

(More customer reviews)Love Mederma. Love it. I'm one of those people who gets bug bites out the wazoo and Mederma helps scars heal. So, when one of my beautiful daughters needed stitches on her forehead after falling down in the grocery store (don't ask), I bought the kids Mederma. Um... no. So here's the deal. It looks like purple jelly. It says it dries clear. I put it on her forehead/face. It stayed purple. So basically it made an already ugly looking scar look a hundred times worse because now instead of being just a scar, it also now had a big purple blob of jelly on it. It made her feel self conscious so I finally stopped putting it on. But I was annoyed I had spent so much money on it.
Bottom line - get the adult version and put it on your children. Same stuff, just not purple.

Most products I've tried make your acne worse before it starts getting better. ScarZoneA didn't do that for me...it starting working right away. I just ordered 2 more tubes! The smell is kind-of gross, but you get used to it...just don't put the cream on your upper lip and you won't smell it as much. The smell is a small price to pay for how well it works. Seriously. But it also helps scratches and scrapes to heal much faster than usual, and keeps them from making scars. You can rub it on most any scab to help it heal. Plus it's good for sunburn. Scargo is slightly oily, which makes massaging easy, but is absorbed quickly, so it won't stain clothes, if you wait a few minutes until it is dry.

I used these to try to save a few bucks before I finally bought the medical grade ones and they did not work at all. I followed the instructions to the letter and they showed no improvement at all. I was so upset because I wasted alot of time when I could have been using something that really works. I finally went to my doctor who recommended Scaraway, which is a professional grade silicone that is thin and like a soft fabric, not stiff like these curad ones are. I felt a difference in the softness of my scar in just a few days and the way the height, thickness and color of my scar diminished over a period of weeks was nothing short of amazing. I got a tube and began applying to a scar I had from something the dermatologist snipped off about a year ago. That scar, though small, was puffy and had been itching ever since the procedure. After about three weeks of applying Kelocote to my scar, the swelling was gone and it was no longer itchy. It also is no longer bright red. I don't know what is in it, and I don't have any idea how it works, but it definitely works. Almost wish I had another scar so I can use the rest of the tube!

I previously tried every over the counter cream and sheet and even an expensive cream from my dermatologist. Nothing worked. My scar was over three years old and I had nearly given up hope when my doctor recommended trying Scaraway sheets. After just a few days my scar was noticeably softer and after a few weeks, the itching was gone and it was flatter and less red. After 10 weeks I cannot believe the results. My scar has virtually vanished. All that is left is a faint whitish line, but it blends with my skin and is no longer raised up and thick, and no one points it out anymore. These sheets were very easy to use compared to other scar treatments I've tried. I just put it on my scar after showering and sometimes just left the sheet on for days, opting to cover it when I shower instead of taking it off like directions say to do. I am extremely pleased with this product, and thrilled to be able to wear certain clothes again after years of covering up my scar. :) My only negative is that it was hard to find, so, I'm glad I found this!

(More customer reviews)I'm now 87, soon to be 88 years old. A few months ago somehow I got a terrible infection on my elbow and, at the same time, a horrible infection on the lobe of my ear. My ear looked like it had a small strawberry grafted on it and I was very scared. My doctor gave me a shot and a prescription ointment, which we used as directed; but neither infection was responding and we were planning for the worst. As if things weren't bad enough, I was lying around a lot because I felt so poorly and I got a bedsore on one hip (due to a bad lung, I can only lay on one side). It was a big purple area with a sore in the middle and it felt like someone was poking me with a pin all the time. My daughter brought me a tube each of Petroactil and Polyactil. The infections just got better and better and went away. My bedsore regained normal color and quit hurting within a few days and then the middle just got OK. Since I always lay on that side of my body, it has come back a couple of times, but I now start using Polyactil at first sign of the bedsore and fix it before it really starts. ThePolyactil also makes the arthritis in my fingers feel better. Aging is a tough adventure and we find ourselves using the Polyactil and Petroactil for all sorts of issues now. V. Phillips

Kelo-cote for scars Review

At one of my post-op visits my surgeon asked me if I would be willing to test the Kelo-cote, doing only one arm for 45 days or so. We selected my left arm which was also the arm that looked "worse". I used kelo-cote each day applying it after my shower. I experienced a definite difference within 7 days and was dumbfounded.
My son, who is an amateur photographer, recorded the progress in healing taking photos of my arms every seven days. By the end of 30 days I was telling my co-workers, my primary care doc, even my dermatologist how fantastic and dramatic the difference was. My dermo was so impressed he contacted the company rep to order it for his patients.
My plastic surgeon is just amazed at the results and I am now applying Kelo-cote to both arms for the next 45 days. I highly recommend it. A little goes a long way and I am going to order additional tubes to use on some of my older scars. It's worth every darned penny.

(More customer reviews)You will definitely see an improvement in your scars. I repeat that again with emphasis: you will see an improvement. I have to tell you that the improvement won't be until you use maybe five or more tubes over five months. The tube is not that large and it doesn't last all that long. It is costly, no matter where you buy it--the Internet or your local store. But, it is the only scar product I have tried that does what it says it will do---so for the third time: don't expect your scars to be 100% gone, even after five or six tubes. BUT: you will be pleased---very, very pleased, indeed. I would say a 90% improvement, and that is wonderful. But not from one tube. I do recommend it and I like it. Not messy and don't use too much as it flakes off. Follow directions. It is a fine product, but buy in bulk!!!
