2pack - Yellow 8 Compartment Pull Apart Pill Organizer Review

2pack - Yellow 8 Compartment Pull Apart Pill Organizer
Average Reviews:

Immediately after purchase, the edges of the plastic lids for the daily dose containers began disintegrating. Small pieces of plastic were mixed in with the medications. I'm young and have good eyesight so I caught the problem before my parents took their medications. An older person with poor eyesight wouldn't catch the problem and would likely swallow pieces of plastic along with their medications. This product is unsafe and should be taken off the market. Much better and safer medication planners are available at a much better price.

MedReady P1600 with Lower Frequency Alarm Review

MedReady P1600 with Lower Frequency Alarm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My mother suffers from Alzheimer's and has been living independently for a while in a CCRC. Before buying this product, we were using the 7-day pill sleeves. They worked for a few years but as her disease progressed, she was forgetting her meds more and more often. So we decided to give this a try. She takes morning and evening meds so we set up the tray with meds alternating between morning pills and evening pills. Then set up the dispenser to open up at 10:00a and 9:00p. For two years Mom never missed a dose. Unfortunately her disease has progressed to the point where she is now in assisted living. They administer her meds for her so we don't need this at the moment. But it was great while she was in independent living.

MedReady P1600 Medication Dispenser with Flashing Light Review

MedReady P1600 Medication Dispenser with Flashing Light
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As primary caregiver for 2 parentals with lots of meds for each, these dispensers have been a lifesaver. I ordered one to try it out, and when it worked so well, ordered another. Our problem was accidentally taking too much medication - taking a dose, forgetting it was taken, and then taking more. This has alleviated this problem. We tried all sorts of "systems" for helping them take their meds correctly - you name it, I tried it - I was having to go to their home and check their meds, and often re-do them, every single day. With these machines, I can fill it up once a week, and even feel comfortable going out of town for a night or two, knowing that they cannot overdose on their meds, and then run out. I do keep a couple of days of "backup" hidden in their home, just in case of machine malfunction, but have not needed to use them. I would recommend getting this machine in place before your situation gets desperate, because even though it is easy to use, it still takes a few days for them to understand what they are supposed to do. With 2 machines, as I saw someone else recommended, I put a picture of the person whose machine it is on the machine, so there is no confusion in that regard. I also put a note on each machine as to what time it will go off. My Mom tells people how wonderful it is - I think it is a relief for them also, because now they don't stress over their meds so much. I should have done this months before I did - would have saved me so much headache!

Fit & Healthy Rotating Pill Case (Pack of 3) Review

Fit and Healthy Rotating Pill Case (Pack of 3)

I use this for 9 pills daily. The day-to-day shifting of the daily compartments is ragged and imprecise. The result is that individual pills get transferred from one day to adjacent days. I cannot recommend this product for as many pills as I use. Maybe if you have fewer pills it works OK, but I haven't tested that.

Purple Weekly Pill Turtle XL Review

Purple Weekly Pill Turtle XL
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered two XL Pill Turtles (one Lavender and one Purple) so I could have one for AM and one for PM. The individual compartments are large enough to hold all the supplements I take daily. It's not as convenient to fill as a straight line pill organizer because the odd-shape lids overlap each other when they are all open, but that's not a serious problem for me. I would not recommend this item for travelers because the lids open a little too easily, but it's fine for home.
Note: Lavender Pill Turtle is actually rose pink, not lavender.

Tab Tote Classic Monthly Pill Organizer and Dispenser Review

Tab Tote Classic Monthly Pill Organizer and Dispenser
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife avoids refilling her 7 day pill container. This one has 32 compartments and it lasts her 4 times as long so she doesn't have to be bothered with refilling it every week. When using it, the thing spins clockwise revealing the contents of each compartment. It does not spin counterclockwise unless you unlock it in the center; this prevents you from accidentially taking the last day's pills instead of the next day's pills. Very sturdy. sits upright and comes apart for easy refilling.

I bought this because I take a lot of vitamins and supplements, which are usually good size pills. I couldn't find another container that was the size this one is. However, it does not screw back together easily, slipping off the screws threads.

My Mom has Alzheimers and I started out with your usual pill container with the Letters on the top S-M-T-W-T-F-S. Well, I could never have pills in two "S" containers or two "T" containers which left me filling the pill containers on Sunday and again on Thursday so she didn't double dose. I would call her in the morning and my brother called her in the evening to remind her to take her pills. Recently I filled Sunday through Wednesday as per usual and my Brother me called Monday evening to say, "there are no pills". Mom says, "you forgot to fill the pill container". This wasn't good so now I was left with driving to her house two times per day and giving her the pills. In between I was searching, trying to figure out what I was going to do. I was thrilled when I found the Automatic Pill Dispenser. It works so slick! It is so easy to program. I program my moms pills for two times per day. Once this was done I didn't have to worry with the timer again except to change the time. I fill the pill container once every two weeks, lock it and forget it. The pill slots hold a good number of pills. Mom has 7 prescription pills besides calcium and D and they fit well, if I place them in just right. My Mom doesn't do well with alarms but there is a ratchet sound that the machine makes when it moves and she hears this and goes and takes her pills. My brother and I still call her twice a day to make sure she has taken her pills. My mother is frail but this machine isn't too heavy for her to tip to get her pills. The Automatic Pill Dispenser is sturdy so she isn't able to break it open and it is so nice to not have to worry about overdose anymore. Now Mom and I can do something beside talk about pills as there is an extra pill case to place pills in ahead so that all you have to do is trade it out.

MedReady 1600 Basic Medication Dispenser Review

MedReady 1600 Basic Medication Dispenser
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this for my mother who has the early stages of Alzheimers. She had been double dosing her meds or not taking them and now with the MedReady Automatic Medication dispenser she's back on track! Because my mother only has to take pills twice a day that allows me to to put 14 days worth of pills in the dispenser. Setting the dispensing time is just like setting an alarm clock-super easy! The alarm is loud but mom still has trouble hearing it if she's 2 rooms away with the TV on. It comes with 2 keys and when you place the key inside the lock & open it the key stays in the lock so it doesn't get lost. It runs on AC power but has a back up battery if the power should go out.
Along with this item I also purchased a 2nd pill tray so that I could just easily swap out the trays inside the dispenser. The spare tray comes with a clear snap on lid so your pills stay in place where they should be.

Telemergency Royalty 100 Pill Dispenser with Alarm Clock and Timer Review

Telemergency Royalty 100 Pill Dispenser with Alarm Clock and Timer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This unit needs to be usable in all respects by anyone who might need help remembering to stay on a medication schedule. That would mostly be older people. In that respect it falls far short. Two stars instead of one because it does hold pills and you can get them out reasonably easily (assuming you've re-assembled it correctly; see below).
1. The slots do hold several pills (as advertised) but they are narrow and hard to fill without spilling a pill into a neighboring slot.
2. If you take it apart to wash it it is hard to reassemble. In particular, the center unit that holds the clock has to be inserted just right, which isn't obvious. Once that is in place, putting the cover on is pretty simple, but it's easy to get the center unit wrong.
3. The clock/alarm is a joke. First, it only alarms once a day, which makes no sense for someone needing to take meds more often. Second, it's hard to set (hold down two little keys, release, then press another to adjust hours or minutes). Third, the display is small and not well lit. Fourth, there is a "reminder" function, which requires more button pushing and notifies you in a fixed number of hours (not hours and minutes, just hours) and is easy to confuse with the alarm (which is a once a day setting). Fifth, the alarm is both a buzzer and a small blinking light, but turning the buzzer off (using the very small switch on the clock unit) also turns of the flashing alarm. So if you just want to be reminded by a flashing light that you need to take your meds this morning you can't do it. And if you want to be reminded in the morning and evening, forget it.
4. The manual is not much help.
Seniors would need considerable help setting this up, if it's appropriate at all. We'll probably return it.

Folca Compact Pill Case, Blue - 8 Compartments Review

Folca Compact Pill Case, Blue - 8 Compartments
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
***** (five stars) This pill holder is super clever, compact (about the size of a pack of regular cigarettes), secure (has a latch over the front tab AND a lid over each separate compartment), and seems very well made; it's the kind of thing I already wish I had several of, to use for all the junk that flies around my purse or gets lost in my pockets (earrings, safety pins, etc.). Also, I hadn't realized it has 4 compartments on one side, 3 slightly larger ones on the other side, and a big flat one in between them--but that's great, 'cause I'll be able to fill it with pills I take in different dosages, or different-sized miscellany. Extremely pleased!
** (two stars) MAY 2011: A few months ago I gave the orange holder (which I still love) 5 stars, but since I can't give a separate review for the blue one I just bought, I have to lower it to 3 stars overall. What a disappointment. :( First of all, the blue box's lid is solid blue, not clear like the picture (or like the orange box). Nothing terribly wrong with that, but the folca "slogan"----"folca: If it always has folca an important thing will not forget" (um.... ok ;)----which is printed in a fairly innocuous way on the orange case, is hugely prominent on the blue on (see my pic with the other product pics, above).
And I wouldn't really mind that so much, but the thing just isn't made the same as the orange one; each inner section is covered with one "partitioned" clear-plastic lid, and the darn thing comes off easily, the sections don't stay closed.... very disappointed. Stick with the orange one, tho, and you'll be happy.

Med-e-lert Automatic Pill Dispenser 28 Day Single Dose / 7 Day 4 Times - White Lid Review

Med-e-lert Automatic Pill Dispenser 28 Day Single Dose / 7 Day 4 Times - White Lid
Average Reviews:

I purchased this for my mom with short term memory loss who often could not remember if she took her pills. She lives alone and it was very worrisome for me. This pill dispenser is very sophisticated with lots of options which also makes it complicated to set up. No way an elderly person could do it themselves in my opinion. But after I set it up it totally resolved our problem! There is no way she can take pills twice which is the most dangerous situation plus I can tell if she skips a dose (she hasn't). Any alarms set up shut off as soon as you tip the pills out. Anyway, we love it and it is well worth the cost in peace of mind. My only caution is that each pill section is not very big. In my mom's case her pills are not large so there is plenty of room, but if taking large pills like vitamins and antibiotics there could be an issue getting them all in. I suppose you could use two sections and have them open at different times of the day to resolve the problem. Anyway, now that we have this we could not live without it!

Compartment lids don't always stay closed and one lid snapped right off the first time I used it - Not pleased with the quality - especially when compare to other plastic pill organizers. Have had others for years and the lids have never broken off. Really need to be careful when using this or you will end up with pills everywhere when one of the compartments does not stay closed. Only used once and I now have a day with no lid!

Med-e-lert 1 Spare Medicine Tray w/ Lid and 4 Dosage Rings and 1 Extra Key Review

Med-e-lert 1 Spare Medicine Tray w/ Lid and 4 Dosage Rings and 1 Extra Key
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product has really saved me so much grief. My mother has mild dementia but the pill taking process had been a constant source of frustration. She just couldn't keep from messing with the boxes I set up and if she dropped them-- well, off I went to her place to find them and try to put them back. Surprisingly she liked the system from the get-go. I expected much resistance but it's working great. I set the time-to-take-your-pills alarm to the loudest most obnoxious sound available so she wouldn't miss it- but she tells people how it "plays a little song when it's time to take my pills". (whatever, Ma)
The ONLY problem is that a couple times she has turned it over to tip out the pills and not turned it back upright. It will give an error message and not function if left upside down.
Be sure to buy the extra tray so you have have one filled and ready to drop in there. I only have to do this every 2 weeks as she just has 2 sets of pills/day.

When I first received this pill organizer, I too had problems with the lids closing. But after using it for a while, I realized I didn't have the lids (which are really just one piece!) lined up correctly. Once I figured out how to line up the lid and click the individual lids closed, no problem.
It saves a HUGE amount of time -- fill it once a month and you're finished.
It's easy to travel with -- it's a fairly compact organizer.
I gave it 5 stars -- and I'm a tough grader.
