(More customer reviews)One of my biggest pet peeves with a lot of daytime cold & flu medications is that while it does do pretty much what they say they do, they leave you with this big case of "medicine head" where you feel pretty much like a zombie. Dayquil is the worst of these offenders, with Tylenol coming in as a close second.
Out of desperation, I tried Theraflu. I've tried their nighttime medicine & liked it for the most part, so I figured this should be good. I really do like this medicine. It worked as it said it did, with my cough & cold all but disappearing. (I still had a bit of a runny nose, but you have to figure that I was *really* bad off to begin with.)
But the best thing of all? No medicine head! I could actually think & *gasp* I actually felt safe taking this before I set out to drive, something I would never think of doing if I'd taken Dayquil. So yeah- if you want something that works pretty well & doesn't leave you with a medicine head feeling, I'd go with this stuff.

(More customer reviews)This past week was the second time I have used these Zicam chews when I feel a cold coming on and both times it stopped my symptoms.
The strawberry chews taste pretty good at first (like taffy) but it ends up tasting a little bit like chalk. It was bearable though. The directions on the back actually say to not take it on an empty stomach, and don't eat or drink for 15 minutes afterward so that sucks when you want to wash the taste out of you mouth. But when it comes down to it I would much rather take this for a few days than be sick for a week!

Maty's Quiet Relief Cough Syrup 4 fl oz (118 ml) Review

(More customer reviews)So after driving all over town to find this product I finally got my hands on it. It comes with no measure cup or eye dropper and says to give them 1/2 tsp for babies. So I was surprised when I opened the bottle and it is a thick goopy mess. This stuff is like glue. It said to set it in hot water but that didn't help too much. My baby HATED the flavor. It smells and tastes very very strong. It was also hard to "Slip" it to her any other way since it is so very thick. I tried giving to her all other ways but ended up not getting the full dose in her with her yelling NO because it is so gross and this girl eats lots of things.
She then ended up with red bumps on her and when she had a diaper her little bottom was a deep scalded red and she screamed in pain trying to clean her. The only thing she had different all day was this remedy. TERRIBLE. I say ask your pediatrician first but steer clear of this product. Not all babies will have a reaction but just because it is natural it is not safe and if you can't get your little one to take it...well enough said.
EDIT: Wrote the company and got a very very nice response from them. Again I am sure not all babies will have an allergic response but it was my two cents.

Cepastat Cherry, 18 Lozenges Box (Pack of 6) Review

(More customer reviews)I am vulnerable to severe coughs following any viral infection. These lozenges will not stop actual productive coughs, but the soothing quality of the phenol is the only thing that helps relieve my incessant coughing from throat irritation- other than cough medicine with codeine, of course. They are also very much better than any other lozenge for sore throats. I find all other throat lozenges to be the equivalent of hard candy compared to Cepastat, which have an actual beneficial effect. Also, these have no sugar, and I can actually use them while falling asleep, which helps a lot. (I sleep on my stomach, I would NEVER recommend using a hard lozenge if you sleep on your back or side. That would risk choking.) I GREATLY prefer the flavor of these to the menthol/eucalyptus version, which I find quite distasteful. I highly recommend trying them.

a) I don't believe I got over the cold any faster.
b) It removed cold symptoms very effectively.
c) It had an odd side effect on my voice.
In the end, Zicam wasn't very useful for my purpose, because it sort of dried out my voice. I'm not sure exactly how to describe the effect. However, I will probably buy it again, because it is very nice not to hack and sniff around people. Instead of dragging around a plethora of kleenex, cough drops, etc, you will carry around a few white gum balls. They do just fine in a pocket - no melting or residue or nasty things like that.
Nobody will know you have a cold, but you must continue to eat them according to the directions until the cold is gone, or the symptoms will return. And honestly, the taste isn't as bad as some reviews state. It's better than that medicine cherry cough syrup.

This cough medicine differs that it does not taste bad at all. It has a subtle orange flavor, slight sweetness, that I think even my kids will not mind. I say that because my little girl, always throws up every time she tries to get it down. We always have a bowl of ice whenever she takes it. By the way, it is also available for kids.
I was introduced to this brand just recently when I asked the pharmacist what he can recommend for my dry cough. It turned out to be quite effective. Effective enough to relieve the itching on my throat for many hours compared to the other over-the-counter medicine I have tried before.

If you follow instructions (adults: 2 tsp x every 4 hrs + 10-15 min of no strong flavor in your mouth before and after intake), you should expect to stop coughing after second-third use, depending on your condition. I was coughing non-stop for almost two weeks before I stumbled upon this wonder-syrup. I found the best way is to take it before and after sleep.
If you are a smoker (one of my friends is), you may see a delay in results, but nevertheless the results are there! Another good idea is to take it along with Wellness Formula from Source Naturals. Just be careful with dosage of that product.
Would I recommend this product to my friends and family??? Are you kidding? I already did and everyone is absolutely grateful for it. Extremely good thing to have before the winter season starts. So far 100% positive results.
UPDATE (2/2/2011): After some time I noticed it's effectiveness has gone down. Not sure what to attribute this to yet, but that's the fact. Switched to also 100% natural ColdBuster warming Syrup.

If your chest is locked tight, and your cough just about kills you, this stuff will immediately open you up and keeps working for hours. Its one of those grin and bare it medicines when you take it, but with an "OMG that really works!" response after you have.
This is the ONLY cough medicine on my shelf this winter. The price on Amazon it great and I like that I can buy a double pack to save on shipping.

I had this heavy cough, like I wasn't coughing up anything, but I could tell that there was something that was hiding in my throat.........After the FIRST DOSE, I began to feel the mucus in my nose move and I started actually blowing stuff out of my nose for once. After a couple more doses, my cough became productive. I have been on this stuff for a few days now and I think that my congestion is just about taken care of. Now I still have a nagging cough, but it has become less and less frequent. I think that it will eventually go away whenever my body has finished clearing everything out. I had already been to the doctor, who gave me antibiotics and a bunch of tylenol-guaifenesin-phenylephrine tablets. The antibiotics helped, but the tablets helped only marginally and did not break up the congestion. Chestal did. I have never written a review on a product; I just got online to find out where to get more so that I'm prepared for the next time I'm sick (my boyfriend brought this product to me -- he also gave me this bug in the first place). If you're contemplating whether or not to try this, just go for it. You have nothing to lose. Plus it has no nasty taste to it! Remember to take it as directed -- I had to put it in my backpack so that I wouldn't skip any doses while in class all day long! Oh, yeah, and I'm in pharmacy school. WebMD and the Mayo Clinc.com or wherever else you look won't endorse homeopathic remedies because pharmaceutical companies don't make money off of people purchasing them. And just because there hasn't been a formal study on the use and effectiveness on the product does NOT mean that it doesn't work. Do your own research and find out what is safe and effective for you. TRY IT. That's all.
