The new edition of The Hyperion Series Astrological Degree Symbols includes in appendix a long article by the author about symbolic degree systems, which was originally published in Dell Horoscope (tm) magazine. This adds a whole new chapter or dimension to the book, and allows comparison of the Hyperion symbols with other symbolic degree systems, including Jones/Sabian, Wemyss, Charubel, LaVolasfera/Sepharial, and the Schroeder analysis, and is based upon a detailed examination of the horoscope of the famous author and polymath, Wolfgang von Goethe. Other charts in the book include those of the Sabian Assembly, the modern state of Israel, Jesus (hypothetical data), Krishnamurti, Annie Besant, C. W. Leadbeater, Marc Edmund Jones, the clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler, and also the birthchart of the Hyperion symbols as such. The main keys to the Hyperion symbols are in the Introduction chapter, to which have been added several new ideas about their many uses in chart interpretation. The book was originally intended to expand the reader's general concept of degree symbols and their significance in astrology, and this edition is a major implementation of that intention. Whether the result is 5-star is for the reader to decide, but the author can thoughtfully affirm that a 5-star effort went into its making.

Degree symbols have been an integral part of astrology for many years. They are often found to be useful in practical interpretation, even deeply illuminative of the horoscope at times. Several sets or series of these exist today, and in recent years the Sabian symbols may have become pre-eminent. But there seems to be no good reason to stop there and to simply cease developing the degree-symbols concept. This book gives various forms of presentation and interpretation for a whole new set of images, the Hyperion Series. This new approach is cognizant and respectful of its antecedents while yet extending a creative modern astrological usage into areas of consideration that may have been given insufficient attention before, not waiting to ask whether this is a proper thing to do but simply going ahead, getting on with it.
